It's that time of year again where the weather gets crisp, sweaters become a necessity, and the excitement for Halloween grows by the day. For those of you who don't know me, Halloween is my all-time favorite holiday, and I spend the entire month of October getting into the Halloween spirit. So, in honor of the fact that October is upon us, I've compiled a list of my Top 20 Halloween movies to watch this month.
20. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

19. Coraline (2009)
I don't care what anybody tells me, this movie is terrifying. A stop-motion film about a young girl who finds a parallel universe where people have buttons for eyes, this movie won countless awards for the superb animation and story line.
18. Donnie Darko (2001)
This classic cult psychological thriller will always be a favorite of mine, even if I still don't have a clear understanding of what actually happens in the film. This movie starring Jake Gyllenhall centers around the idea of time travel, and will leave viewers wondering what they just watched.
17. The Blair Witch Project (1999)
I'm not really a fan of this movie, but given the popularity of it it's impossible to not include it on this list. The movie that started the found footage film trend broke barriers for other filmmakers, and the apology scene is iconic to say the least.
16. The Craft (1996)
Centered around a newcomer to a Catholic prep school who befriends a group of outcasts, this classic movie almost makes it seem cool to be into witchcraft. That is, until your best friends tries to use her powers to kill you.
15. Scream (1996)
Who could ever go wrong with the original Scream? This Wes Craven slasher film portrays a psychopathic killer who's seen far too many horror movies, and a teenage girl who's just trying to get over her mother's mysterious death. Definitely a staple for any horror movie night.
14. The Conjuring (2013)
I'm an absolute sucker for The Conjuring franchise. I don't consider myself to be a fan of newer horror movies, but this franchise is a breath of fresh air. Definitely a horror movie that focuses more on the suspense then the blood and gore, The Conjuring is a movie to be watched with all of the lights on.
13. Halloween (1978)
One of the best horror movies ever made, this slasher film centers around Michael Myers, a masked killer who preys on the innocent and doesn't seem to die. This classic John Carpenter film definitely gives new meaning to the title 'Boogeyman.'
12. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
If you don't like this movie, we can't be friends. I'm just going to leave it at that.
11. Poltergeist (1982)
This classic horror movie centers around a suburban family whose house is plagued by spirits that communicate with them through their television set. An overall fantastic movie with a well-constructed plot.
10. The Fourth Kind (2009)
When I tell you that this movie is terrifying, I'm not joking. This science fiction thriller is based entirely off of true events, and alternates between interviews with those involved and actor dramatizations. This horror movie will leave viewers wondering whether aliens actually exist.
9. Dark Skies (2013)
Another alien movie which centers around a family's fight against unknown forces that are interested in their youngest son, this movie is suspenseful, scary, and altogether a very well done film.
8. Hocus Pocus (1993)
How could someone not love this movie? When a teenage boy accidentally resurrects three witch sisters in Salem, Massachusetts, it's up to him and his friends to stop their reign of terror on Halloween night.
7. The Omen (1976)
This classic horror movie tells the story of an American diplomat who, after a slew of mysterious deaths, believes that his son Damien could be the Antichrist. Definitely a must-see for the Halloween season.
6. Carrie (1976)
The story of a group of teenagers playing a cruel joke on shy, friendless girl, this horror movie is definitely considered a classic. And they also made a musical out of it, so that's pretty cool, right?
5. Sinister (2012)
Now THIS was a scary movie. Centered around a failing writer who finds a box of home movies that show families getting murdered, this movie is disturbing to some, but captivating to all.
4. The Corpse Bride (2005)
This stop-motion animated film directed by Tim Burton is a visual masterpiece, all about a young man who accidentally asks the corpse of a woman to marry him. And to his dismay, she says yes.
3. Psycho (1960)
This classic Alfred Hitchcock film is one of genius, and is psychologically thrilling. You'll be scared to take a shower for weeks!
2. The Shining (1980)
This psychological horror film directed by Stanley Kubrick and is considered a horror classic. Set in a vacant hotel in Colorado, this film focuses on the evil spirits that influence the father into violence. This film is iconic, to say the least.
1. The Exorcist (1973)
This movie is considered to be the greatest horror movie ever made, and for good reason too! It would be a crime to not have this horror movie on this list, and will always remain to be a favorite of mine, even if it still scares the crap out of me.
