As you know, breakups are hard. They hurt and destroy you. They make you lose trust, and they make you feel worthless. They make you feel like you’re not good enough. And these terrible feelings cause you to question your worth.
But without your friends, you would be off far worse.
They were there the night of and the morning after. They let you sleep in their bed so that you didn’t have to be alone. They offered you coffee when you woke up with puffy eyes and a stomach ache. They held you close when you got the message that made you break down and feel like nothing. They gave you tissues.
They got you cookies, ice cream, brownies and chips to munch on while you cried. (And they swore they would go to the gym with you in the morning.) They didn’t stop you when you got angry. They yelled with you while you cursed the boy who caused you pain. They screamed and shouted while tears ran down your face, and they made you laugh when you thought your world was crumbling.
They talked you through it. They pointed out that, yes, you made mistakes too. But they also told you that you deserve better. You don’t deserve to be yelled at, or blamed. We all make mistakes, some worse than others. But, they let you know that what had happened is not to be taken on by you. It is not your fault.
They told you that you couldn’t change people. They told you that you can’t change yourself for people. You are your own beautiful self, and your friends emphasized that you are. Because right now, you feel like you aren’t good enough for anybody. And you don’t want anybody else. You don’t want anybody else other than the one who made you feel like you are nothing.
They held you, and listened while you cried soft tears because you were slowly running out. After a while, it just becomes numb, and it doesn’t seem real. But, your friends helped you, and told you that there was nothing you could do. Some people just are not meant to be together.
Some people just are not meant to be together. That is a hard reality. And it is even harder to hear when they left you without warning and you were still wanting them. You still needed them, and they didn’t feel the same. But, your friends tell you that they need you more.
They need you to take time and have fun. You need to go out into the sun and read your favorite book. Watch favorite episodes of your favorite shows. Eat your favorite snacks. Get your favorite coffee. Listen to angry Taylor Swift songs.
You don’t have to do this alone, you have all of your best friends to hold you when you feel dizzy with pain, and they will try their hardest to make you laugh when you feel like crying. That is why they are here.
And they always will be. Even for the next breakup.
