After spending the first 18 years playing sports together, copying off each others' homework, having sleepovers, and wrecking havoc for our families, I doubted we'd ever go our separate ways. But now as we begin our sophomore years of college, our paths split for the second time in our young lives. And I understand that life got in the way for the both of us this summer with work, family vacations, and boyfriends, but I find comfort in knowing that we always find our way back to each other one way or another. Until then:
- I wish we had more time to do the things we've sworn we would do and the places we've dreamed of visiting ever since we were little. We're getting old, running out of continuous free time, and it's happening fast (I thought I'd be stuck in my 15 year old awkward stage forever, so 19 is ancient). So let's start planning that trip to Italy and put a downpayment on our 2 family beach house ASAP.
- I know we will talk daily so you can tell me how you guessed on every single question on your exam, and I can fill you in on how my professor called on me in class and I almost passed out. I look forward to our 2 am phone calls so we can contemplate the meaning of life and facetiming so we can remember how to do laundry like our mom's taught us (white isn't considered a color, right?).
- I miss our sushi lunch dates every Friday after school. It's not as much fun eating raw fish that seems to still be looking at me while trying to forget I'm eating raw fish that seems to still be looking at me, alone. And let's be real, no sushi compares to Shoprite sushi, period, the end.
- I believe you are capable of so much more than you think and are smarter than you believe. Just like we used to say to each other right before we competed at every single cheering competition for the last 10 years, I am your biggest fan and will always support you no matter what (regardless of how questionable some of your decisions are... but that's a whole other story for a different day and a different article).
- And I can't wait to see where our lives take us from here, and if it were up to me, it'd be on an island 10 years from now with a drink in each hand and our husbands dealing with your 5 sons and my 3 daughters somewhere else. I look forward to many more adventures and even more memories with you by my side.
After all, what's a girl without her best friend?
