Squad Goals, or Mom Goals?

We don’t often think of our parents as our friends or even on our side for most of our young adult life. I mean, come on, they’re always nagging and griping and yelling at us for literally anything, who needs that kind of person as a friend?

And it never really bothers anyone that our parents aren’t our friends, they’re our parents, they’re not cool, they’re not hip, they’re there to step in when things get tough and that’s that, right? Wrong.

Something I’ve learned while growing up is that parents are your first friends, they really do want the best for you and the person who has become my very best friend over the few years I’ve been in college is my mom. Here’s what I want to tell her every day when I wake up to see a brand-new day:

Mom,

I know I haven’t always been the best growing up, I’m hard – headed, headstrong, overly zealous about most irrelevant things but you’ve never once made me feel like I was doing anything I couldn’t excel at.

You’ve never made me feel like my ideas were wrong or my dreams were unreachable and most times, you were the only one standing next to me on the front lines fighting for them. You’re more than just my mom, and to be honest, I can’t even repay you for doing the amazing job you’ve done as my mother, let alone my best friend.

I never really considered what it would be like to have a best friend who is elegant, wise, graceful, gorgeous, radiant, and just all around amazing, and sure my friends are cool but none of them are even half of what you are.

You’re my shoulder to cry on, my first and last phone call of the day, when things get tough, when things just don’t add up, or when I have some juicy news to share, you’re the only one I want to share them with. If I had to choose someone to be my best friend, it’d be you one billion times over.

I know I’ve told you this before, and I’m not sure if you believe me, but if I could be just half the woman you are; half the wife, the mother, the sister, niece, aunt, and cousin, I’d be an amazing woman. From the moment you wake up, to the moment you go to sleep and every moment in-between, I love you.

Thank you for not only being my terrific mother, but also the realest person on my team. You’re the definition of squad goals, holding it down as one person. And if you’re the only person I have in my corner, I won’t sweat it, you’re honestly all I need.

Always and Forever,

Alexis

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
