If you're a Richmond student, or if you're hungover on a Sunday, or if you're just really dying for some quality sweet potato tots, there should only be one restaurant in the area that comes to mind.
Toast is a charming and cozy little place located in the Village Shopping Center on Three Chopt Road. You've probably driven past its inconspicuous exterior countless times, but it's what's on the inside that really matters.
Five minutes away from campus in an ideal area for hungry Spiders, Toast is unparalleled when it comes to brunch. With menu items like The Chicken and the Egg and The Cali Omelet (both highly recommended), their fresh ingredients and perfectly complementary flavors are what keep patrons coming back for more.
Upon arrival to Toast, you'll be seated in a booth or window-side table surrounded by urban decor with southern charm. The staff, as one would expect, is friendly and attentive. For brunch I would recommend ordering a tall glass of orange juice to drink that hangover away. But if you come a little later in the day, they do have happy hour from 4 to 6 p.m. once you recover.
Their brunch menu consists of breakfast meals, benedicts, starters (such as crab cakes and sweet tots), salads, sandwiches, and burgers. Everything. Is. Good. Toast also boasts a separate gluten-free menu.
I realize that we as college students can't afford to go out to brunch every weekend unless it's a desperate hungry sprint to Denny's for cheap eats, but Toast is very reasonably priced for when you want to treat yourself sans guilt. Most everything on the brunch menu is between $10 and $20, which is worth it for the high-quality meal you'll devour.
Toast is the ideal place to meet with friends, eat with your family, and enjoy good company and good food. If you haven't been yet, I'll see you there next time, the morning after lodges.
