Best Black Lipsticks

Which black lipsticks $25 or under are worth the witchcraft?

Best Black Lipsticks
Maddy McKeever

I've seen a lot of reviews of black lipsticks around, especially near Halloween (because not everyone like me is goth). But all of these reviews seem to focus on the latest craze of liquid matte lipsticks. While I own one or two of these, I thought I would also bring in some of my black bullet lipsticks for comparison for the people that aren't huge fans of either liquid or matte (or both). I will judge the lipstick on these parameters: color, opacity, transfer, and wear. Let's find some makeup for summer that won't melt away. Welcome to the spooky review.

MegaLast Lip Color by Wet N Wild

Maddy Mckeever

Black Out: $2.49

Color: dark black

Opacity: mid

Transfer: high transfer, high smear

Wear: Very creamy, stays fairly dark but gets on EVERYTHING

Verdict: Not worth the mess.

Black Lipstick Makeup by Spirit Halloween

Maddy McKeever

Black: $2.99

Color: light black / grey

Opacity: sheer

Transfer: high transfer, high smear

Wear: Wears down quickly to a light grey but leaves nice silver sparkles

Verdict: Cheap choice for just Halloween night or if you want sparkles instead of color. Not for everyday use.

Fierce Effects Lipstick by Hard Candy

Maddy McKeever

Black Diamond: $5.00

Color: dark black

Opacity: mid

Transfer: mid transfer, low smear

Wear: needs to be reapplied a bit, but is solid and sparkles

Verdict: Best everyday lipstick if you don't wanna splurge on the good stuff over $15, highly recommend.

Katy Kat Matte Lipstick by Katy Perry

Maddy McKeever

Perry Panther: $5.69 to $8.99

Color: grey

Opacity: mid maybe

Transfer: mid transfer, high smear

Wear: Not worth the sheer and smear. Question what a pop star sells you.

Color Sensational Loaded Bold Lipstick by Maybelline

Maddy McKeever

Pitch Black: $7.49

Color: light black/ grey

Opacity: dark enough aka mid

Transfer: high transfer, mid smear

Wear: Okay if you keep it on you to reapply often, but I generally wouldn't recommend it.

Matte Lipstick by Anastasia Beverly Hills

Maddy McKeever

Midnight: $18.00

Color: light grey

Opacity: very sheer

Transfer: medium transfer

Wear: Smudges away to leave light grey and sparkles, mid transfer, mid smear

Verdict: I would consider it a grey lipstick, not black like the label says. Not my favorite.

Vice Lipstick by Urban Decay

Color Voodoo shown above

Maddy McKeever

Perversion: $18.00

Voodoo: $18.00

Oil Slick: $18.00

Color: dark grey/black

Opacity: mid to mid/low

Transfer: mid transfer, mid smear

Wear: Not bad, but needs to be reapplied a lot

Verdict: Okay lipstick, but a little overpriced for what you get.

Studded Kiss Crème Lipstick by Kat Von D

Nayeon on left, Slayer on right

Maddy McKeever

Slayer: $19.00

Nayeon: $19.00

Color: slayer- black, nayeon- dark grey with glitter

Opacity: not see-through at all

Transfer: low transfer, low smear

Wear: very creamy and thick, stays the darkest the longest, but fades chunky

Verdict: My favorite overall that I currently own, especially when I don't want to worry about reapplying.

Lipintensity Lipstick by MAC

Maddy McKeever

Stallion: $21.00

Color: mid black

Opacity: mid

Transfer: mid transfer, low smear

Wear: A little dry, but keeps on fairly well

Verdict: Not bad, though I would choose other black lipsticks over it for buying a new black.

Be Legendary by Smashbox

Maddy McKeever

Bankrolled: $21.00

Color: dark black

Opacity: Not sheer

Transfer: Hugh transfer, high smear

Wear: Of what stayed on, it stayed on well

Verdict: Blot Blot Blot a lot and you'll be okay with this one.

Artist Rouge Lipstick by Makeup Forever

Maddy McKeever

Black (C604): $22.00

Color: dark black

Opacity: not sheer at all

Transfer: no transfer, low smear

Wear: Only needed to be touched up, not fully reapplied

Verdict: I'm going back to buy this as my new everyday lipstick, it's the most expensive for a reason, because it's the best quality overall. It will be in my purse permanently by the time this is published.

I want able to find 3 of the lipsticks I was looking for:

Lethal Lipstick by Manic Panic in colors Alien, Nosferatu, and Raven for $15.50 (knowing the quality of thier hair dye though, I'm sure it is terrible and not worth the money).

Macaron Lippie by Nyx in color Chambord for $6.50 (after consulting my sister, she says Nyx lipsticks tend to be okay, but very drying).

Moisturizing Lipstick by elf in color Black Out for $3.00 (Elf tends to do cheap well, so I'd guess it'd likely be the best of the $3 and under lipsticks).

My final thoughts if you are going to get a black bullet lipstick, go with Hard Candy for cheap, and Kat Von D or Makeup Forever for splurging on the more expensive ones.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
