If you’re reading this, congratulations! You made it to the end (or you’re close to being done anyway). All those all-nighters, final exams, papers and much-needed cry sessions are behind you. Ahead lies summer, full of promises of sun, fun and free time. Yesterday, some friends and I were trying to create some of that free time and found ourselves indulging on long-forgotten YouTube videos. If you were alive in the late 90s-early 2000s, you’ve probably forgotten about the children’s animated classic Maggie and the Ferocious Beast. It was pre-Dora the Explorer, starring a six-year-old named Maggie and her animal friends, Hamilton the nervous pig and Beast the ferocious...polka-dotted ox/elephant hybrid thing. The trio goes on a fifteen-minute adventure per episode and have the time of their lives in their little fantasy world of Nowhere Land.
Anyway, I’ve decided that if I were to be an animal, I’d probably be the Beast. He’s got some great one-liners and this underlining salty, sarcastic sense of humor that I seem to have adopted myself. Through our reminiscing, I discovered that some of these scenes perfectly sum up my year of college, and I bet they can relate to yours, too.
No matter what time you had class, this was you every morning.
You’d sneak out trying to go shower without waking up the roommate.
Somehow, it was always laundry day.
Yet no one judged you when you literally had no other option.
Every day in every circumstance all year long.
Still, you wondered if today was going to be the best day ever.
It could be, because there were times you felt like the smartest kid in the room.
Then there were others.
And then there were these times.
So it wasn’t your best day. In fact, life was hard a lot.
Sometimes, it was too much work to always slay the world.
And you just wanted to be done with...
Through everything, you vowed to be strong.
And guess what? You made it! And that calls for your favorite catchphrase:
You’re done, or getting close. And from all of us here in Nowhere Land, see you next fall!
