Bernie started a political revolution, by speaking the truth and preaching a progressive platform. He supports all the policies I believe in such as single payer health care; making health care a human right and not a privilege. He is completely against fracking and believes that we need to move away from completely relying on fossil fuel energy that is destroying our environment. Bernie is advocating for increasing our social safety net by expanding social programs such as social security, disability insurance, and free public education. He also calls for an increased tax on the 1 percent who has been hoarding the wealth and suppressing the rest of America by buying out politicians to keep their taxes low. He brought attention to the important issues such as income inequality which nobody really spoke about until Sanders came along.
Bernie has completely changed the conversation. Before him, I accepted the fact that politicians, both Democrat and Republican, take money from corporate America, I thought that was just how American politics worked. But, Bernie woke me up. He revealed that the money “donated” to candidates such as Hillary and Trump come with plenty of strings. Wall Street donated millions of dollars to Hillary's campaign and then she has the audacity to give a speech about fighting Wall Street and imposing stricter regulations on them. How could we possibly believe that she will challenge Wall Street when they are the ones who will get her elected. Bernie broke the record of raising the most money without taking anything from corporate America or Super PACs. He raised the money for his revolutionary campaign from everyday Americans like myself with a 27 dollar donation. He was the only major candidate who was not enslaved to the fossil fuel industry and corporate America.
His honesty and integrity along with his ideas captured the hearts and minds of Americans; mostly consisting of young people crippled by the increasing cost of higher education, thus inspiring the younger generations to take an interest in politics. We gravitate towards his liberal views on social issues and believe that he is a true champion for the people.
It might seem like I just simply agree with Bernie Sanders and think he is a good politician, but it is far more than that. I see him as a true hero, someone who is willing to fight for me, fight for my interests and fight for a future that is worth having.
To Bernie: I know you were cheated out of winning the Democratic nomination, but regardless, you will always have my vote.
