The Vermont Senator who has become everyone's new imaginary grandfather is running for president. Bernie Sanders is running a campaign that is by the people, and for the people, since day one. This phenomenon is new and exciting, especially to young voters (college-aged students and recent graduates) who have seen the same politics repeated year after year.
I'm voting for Bernie because he's had the same ideas since he was in college. So many politicians nowadays are so political. Let's say Fred is running for President and Fred is a Democrat. Often times, Fred will initially run an extremely Democratic campaign to win the primary and beat out his opponents. Once he wins the primary, he'll alter his views slightly to appeal to people that might see themselves as more Republican. While we don't have information like that on Bernie because he hasn't gotten to the point where he wins the primary (fingers crossed, folks), his track record shows no signs of him changing his ideals just for the sake of votes. He's been involved with unions and the Civil Rights Movement (he was once arrested during a protest to desegregate public schools in Chicago in the 1960s) and his ideas regarding Democratic Socialism have not changed since the start of his career in politics.
I'm voting for Bernie because he knows the importance behind the Black Lives Matter movement. He was asked about the Movement and what it meant during a debate and fully understood the meaning behind it. Of course, all lives matter but right now black lives are the ones that are the most in danger and it's up to us to do something about it. I think this tweet by "Orange is the New Black," star Matt McGorry, really sums it up.
I'm voting for Bernie because he's aiming to provide free public college education. As a college student, I'm really broke. I went to go get a piece of pizza with my friends tonight and had to pray that I had $3 in my wallet. It's not that I don't work hard, I (apparently) don't go to an insanely expensive school, but having to pay $20,000 a year really adds up and a lot of the time it's not something that many families have. In order to get a job in the 21st century, a bachelor's degree -- or a masters degree -- is required. The possibility of free public college lifts a weight off my shoulders and I'm just thinking about it. No more loans!
I'm voting for Bernie because his campaign is entirely funded by people like you and I. Politicians often run campaigns that are backed by big businesses which little to no change will be made for the 99 percent. Bernie's campaign, on the other hand, is funded by unions and individual civilians who believe in what he's saying and doing. That speaks volumes to the quantity of people that are behind his campaign -- and also speaks to his virtual tie with Hillary in the Iowa caucuses!
