Take advantage of your student ID while you have it. Most people do not realize all of the benefits that having a student ID can get them. You can get discounts, free stuff, and special pricing on a ton of items at lots of different stores. Here is a handy list of places you can get a discount just for showing your student ID (although there are definitely more, so always keep your ID on you and ask about student pricing):
1. J.Crew, Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, Limited, and H&M (15-20%) – In my own experience, sometimes they don’t give you a student discount on top of another store sale that is going on, but it’s always worth it to ask.
2. Madewell (15%) – Definitely worth a shot since they just opened a store in Green Hills.
3. Eastern Mountain Sports (15%) – I discovered this today when I went there to buy supplies for studying abroad. Luckily, the cashier asked me if I was a college student (I guess I look like a college student?) and gave me the discount when I showed my ID. I would never have known that they had a discount if she hadn't asked!
4. Museums – This varies, but always have your student ID on you when you are going to a show, museum, art exhibit, etc. There is usually a student price.
5. Supercuts (20%) – The cheapest haircut you’ll ever get.
6. Amazon Prime – Signing up with a school email address gets you 6 months free.
7. Chipotle - I've never tried this myself, but apparently you can get a free drink with your order when you show a student ID.
8. Chick-fil-A - Supposedly the same as Chipotle (but both of these can vary between different locations).
9. Apple – You can save up to $200 on a new Mac under their education pricing.
10. The New York Times, Wall Street Journal – You can get a student subscription for a discounted rate.
11. AMC Movie Theaters - There are discounted tickets for students on Thursdays.
12. Pottery Barn Teen - Offers discounts on dorm room items if you enter your school (.edu) email address.
Bottom line: When in doubt, flash your student ID and ask if you get any discounts wherever you are. Also, use your student email when signing up for promotions or store memberships if you can, since that might get you a discount. There are so many opportunities out there to save money as a student — so use them!
