Ben Rector: More Than An Artist

Ben Rector: an Oklahoman born, resident of Nashville, a guy with a passion for meaningful music, and the best musician known to man.

So, you are probably wondering, “What sets Ben apart from other musicians?” Well, let me tell you. There is power in his music. It is moving. It is touching. His words are more than words, but a meaningful, emotional, and thoughtful story.

Let me explain why you should become his biggest fan (but, you won’t because I’m his biggest fan, but you can be a close second):

1. He’s independent.

He doesn’t have a major recording label promoting his music. Everything he has accomplished has been through hard work. And let me be the first to say, he’s accomplished a lot. He’s sold over 250,000 albums and 2 million downloads. That’s impressive.

2. He’s humble.

This guy has sold 250,000 albums and 2 million downloads on his own, which calls for bragging rights? Wrong. He’s a super humble dude. He is very thankful for everyone who supports him. I saw him in concert at the Ryman, and he was shocked that it was a sold out show and thanked his audience for always supporting his music.

3. He has a heart for serving.

All the proceeds from his album, "Walking In Between," went to build a well in Zambia. Ben said that by building a well, you know their lives have been affected. Ladies, are your hearts starting to melt? (Guys, take note.)

4. He’s a beautiful human being.

Ben Rector has a precious personality, but he is SUPER DUPER CUTE, too. He isn’t Zac Efron or anything, but hey, that’s okay. Ben is actually better because he is real and practically the whole package. He is flawless. He dresses great. It doesn’t get better than that.

Too bad, he’s happily married.

5.He has the voice of angel.

He has the voice of an angel. I can listen to his songs over and over. I would compare his voice to heaven on Earth. His voice and music is pure art. I am not even kidding.

I mean go listen to "White Dress."

6. His music is relatable.

Ben has a song for every emotion you feel. He has your jams for when you’re riding around with the windows down and music cranked up. When your heart is broken, you can take comfort in, “When a Heart Breaks.” For the worrier, “Note to Self” will show life is more about simple things. Call your mom more often. Exercise more. Worry less. But think of other people more. “Live like the World is Gonna End” is gives us perspective. Life is short; so don’t take it for granted. As you can see, his music is purposeful and there is a song for every feeling.

7. #benonaplane

Whenever Ben is flying, he tells his followers to ask him questions using #benonaplane. He tries to answer everyone's question. It just shows that he is an everyday guy, like you and me. He is relatable.

8. Great sense of humor

If you ever take the time to stalk him on Twitter, his tweets will brighten your day. He tweets little quirky thoughts that put a smile on your face, and probably a little giggle too. He’s a funny dude.

9. He’s even better live.

You think this man is on angel while you’re listening to him on your iTunes library, well he’s even better live. How does it get any better, right? But, it does. The first time I saw him in concert, I cried. Legit tears.

As you can see, Ben Rector is a pretty rad dude. You are missing out, if you have never heard his music. (This is the time where you go to YouTube and look him up and become his second biggest fan).

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
