My credo

I Believe...
Nathaniel Foster

This week I wanted to post an article that on the surface, may seem very pessimistic. This is a credo. An “I believe" statement if you will. It's something that I think encompasses me as a person though when I wrote this a year and a half ago, I felt the need to preface it. I briefly stated on my behalf, that the reality is, we people can feel very strongly about something one day and the next day that mindset can change. It's the thought that our nature and ideas can be challenged by the ebb and flow of life. Though I believe that to be true, my credo is something that challenges a lot of belief systems that many hold very close to their hearts. So if you intend to read it and I hope you do, bear in mind this could be in juxtaposition to much of what you believe. It is not a judgment of others, but rather an observation from my point of view.

As writers, we tell our truth however unpopular that may be. Sometimes that truth hurts other people and sometimes it saves them, but the truth of the craft always comes out in the end. Somehow it always weasels its way into our work.

I believe I'm alone, and if I am not, the faces like my own hide in a crowd of those who believe in everything. If you believe in everything, you believe in nothing enough. If you think you're like me but say nothing, you're not. I believe love means little to most and nothing to the rest. I believe that fun comes from something simpler, that it cannot be bought, smoked, or drank. I believe that those who claim they want it, believe their own lies. I believe that people don't want to succeed, they expect to. I believe we don't deserve the chances we keep getting and the chances we keep giving.
I believe I'm alone. I believe that if you tell the world you did good, you did it for yourself. I believe in true morality. I believe that if you don't know what that is, you don't have it. I believe that God hates religion; that a non-believer that does good should go to heaven and a worshiper that does bad cannot be saved. I believe that if I cannot go to heaven for good acts, that heaven is hell and heaven is filled with demons. I believe human beings are inherently evil and those who have the strength to work against it can be good. I believe that there are still original thoughts. I believe I'm alone. I believe I can be proven wrong.

If you're ever wondered what you believe, I have found this to be an interesting exploration of self.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
