Being a human being does not require you to devour any sentient being or anything with moral values. Most people would refute this claim and couldn’t be bothered by something so indifferent to their way of life. But, eating meat doesn’t make you live longer, keep you healthy or make a good impact on the world. How come the animals must die for our future, but when one of us loses our lives to an animal, we deem them too dangerous?
Singer quotes, “The significance of an interest cannot be discounted based on whom that interest belongs.” So what gives us the right to take out another living creature’s life? We kill and kill for the sake of consuming large quantities of meat, obtained from different animals. Even though we waste more than half of the meat we, so call, require to eat to survive. Man has built large killing factories just to slaughter and harvest the meat and organs of sentient beings, but drags them through the worst conditions before actually killing them.
Instead of building such monstrous buildings for the torture of animals, we could plant and grow crops that would feed even more people at cheaper costs than any slaughter plant ever could. There is absolutely no reason for killing creatures that live among us. They deserve to live just as much as we do. There are no absolute reasons in killing them for a food source, especially when we have figured out different ways to obtain protein from plants.
If this was the life we were chosen to live, then why are we the only animals that clean and cook our meat? Last time I checked, a lion doesn't just stop in the middle of killing its prey and say, "Hey Gary, would grilling this taste better, or would frying it up intensify the flavor?" That entire sentence sounds ludicrous, and no animal has those conversations other than human beings. Plus, we don't even have the right kind of stomach to eat and digest meat like other carnivores do. That is the main reason why humans get constipated as much as we do or we couldn't break down all the fatty foods we would eat if we only consumed meat.
Lastly, these are only a few examples of why we shouldn't consume another non-human animal's flesh. This list could go on and on, but I think I made a valid point for right now. I want to see our future generation's kids enjoying the same animals I did when I was growing up. I also believe any one reading this does as much as I do too.
