Everybody loves "the fun girl." Guys want to date her, girls want to be here, and everyone wants to be around her. Contrary to popular belief, she doesn't always have to be the drunkest girl at the party (hey, we're learning here), but she is definitely having the best time. She is unique, uninhibited, independent and driven. Here's to the fun girls — may we know them, be them and raise them.
1. She is outspoken and candid.
A fun girl says whatever she wants. She is easy to talk to be because she isn't worried about stepping on people's toes or accidentally offending someone. She is self-assured and able to speak her mind. If you disagree with what she has to say, that's fine, but it's not going to keep her from saying it. She captivates anyone who crosses her conversational path with her witty and playful banter.
2. She lives unapologetically.
There is no Brandy Melville "one size fits all" human factory. A fun girl understands that there will be people out there who don't like her, but guess what — she doesn't care. She would never change something about herself just to please someone else. So what, she listens to gangster rap, wears clothes others wouldn't dare to and rocks her bed head? DEAL WITH IT!
3. She is confident in herself and her beliefs.
If there is only one word to describe a fun girl (besides the obvious), it's be CONFIDENT. How can you set the world on fire if you're afraid of your own flame? A fun girl knows where she stands and holds her ground.
4. She is passionate and has ambition.
It may seem like fun girls don't have a care in the world, and while they undoubtedly have less stress than most other people, they definitely care. Caring is cool. Being passionate about things that are important to you is hella cool. Knowing how to take those passions and create a life that will revolve around them so that every day is filled with the things that bring you bliss — well, that is the mark of a professional fun girl!
5. She is spontaneous and isn't afraid of taking risks.
Fun girls have the ability to in the moment. If they find out a band they love is having a show a few hours away, stock up the car with snacks because there's about to be a road trip. She'll be dive in first skinny dipping, climb to the highest branch of the tree, take that last shot that she maybe probably shouldn't and definitely approach the cute guy over there at the bar.
6. She loves being surrounded by friends but doesn't need to be.
I-N-D-E-P-E-N-D-E-N-T. Do you know what that means? This girl rocks her own world before she rocks anybody else's. She has just as much fun harmonizing with Harry Styles in her car alone as she does with all of her girlfriends, and that is what sets her apart. That energy is contagious and the reason so many people are drawn to her.
7. She is generous with her laughter.
Fun girls are funny. I mean, it's part of their title, but what's great about them is they make other people feel funny, too, because they are quick to give a laugh. Laughter is the best way to lighten the mood and bring a room to life. Nothing goes with a good time better than a good laugh. Where there's laughter, there are fun girls, and where there are fun girls, there's always a good time.
8. If there's a dance floor, she's there.
Refer to numbers 2, 3, 5 and 7. A fun girl doesn't give a damn what you think, and she loves the song that's playing, so hellz yeah, she's breaking out her Yonce. And you best believe that once everyone sees how much fun she's having, they're gonna join right in.
9. She doesn't believe in rules, and she definitely doesn't play by them.
There is nothing more frustrating to a fun girl than societal faux pas. Fun girls are boss a** b****es, and boss a** b****es do as they please. A few broken rules never hurt nobody, but they definitely lead to some great stories. Besides, how can you stand out if you're staying within the boundaries that someone else created for you?
10. She takes things at face value.
Reading into things is draining, and anything that drains a fun girl's spunk will not be tolerated. It's amazing how much more energy you have when you decide not to create problems in your head. Take things for what they are and don't second guess everything. When some girl tells you she loves your vintage skirt that happens to be your mom's from the '80s ("Mean Girls," anyone?), chances are she really does like your skirt, so don't go burning your entire wardrobe because you sensed an undertone of sarcasm.
11. She can be a part of the crowd without becoming the crowd.
Fun girls love to be the life of the party. They are very social and have friends in all different social circles. Because they are so self-assured, it is easy for them to hang out with anyone and everyone without losing themselves in the process. This is a quality that gains fun girls a ton of respect. After all, everybody loves a gal with some good old-fashioned boundaries.
12. She is happy.
The most important component of a fun girl is that she is happy. Utterly, completely, deeply, genuinely HAPPY. She has bad days, too (duh), but she never lets them get the best of her. She surrounds herself with the people and things that inspire her to have big and wild dreams. She always finds a way to be content with where she is at the moment, but she keeps an eye on the horizon where the next adventure is waiting for her to breathe wonderful sparkling life into it.
