As I type this article, there are 62 days until the beginning of the 2017 Pride Band season here at Missouri State University! Pride Band is one of my favorite things in the world, with the show "New Girl" following closely on that list. "New Girl" has a way of describing almost any situation perfectly so I figured, why not use it to describe what it's like being in the Pride band? From the really high highs to the lowest of the lows, here's a little insight into what it's like being a member of the Pride Band, as told by "New Girl"!
1. When you finally get a Saturday off
Especially in November, when every Saturday is a game and you finally get that Saturday off. You realize you dont have to wake up early, let alone wear an uncomfortable uniform that retains heat in the direct sunlight for 5+ hours. What do people with free time do??
2. When you hear someone mention Cavallo buses
Let the flashbacks begin. All the broken down buses that caused late night arrivals and uniforms spilled on the highway. It wouldnt be a Pride trip without those problematic Cavallo buses...right?
3. When you try to act like you aren't about to die at the football games
Pff, I totally cant feel the sweat dripping down my back and into my butt crack. Pro Tip: scream your pain and frustrations away during a key-down. It helps.
4. When your family asks how you're doing in the middle of November and you say you're fine
Well, we had a game, another game, then another game...Im fine. Maybe its because Ive gotten used to the feeling of being dead? Who knows. Yes, mom, I dont mean that literally.
5. When you finally get to sit down at a football game
I felt horrible knowing the only way we got to sit down was if someone got hurt, but, boy, does it feel great to bend your knees and have the weight off your feet. Even if it is just for a little bit.
6. When you get frustrated at rehearsals
I'll admit, it is frustrating to run through the same set over and over again, but you have to remember why you're there and why you still haven't left yet. To me, that is because of the friends I've made.
7. When it's time to take your individual pictures
There's something about having a Jolesch cameraman taking your pictures and telling you how to pose. It's both irritating and flattering.
8. When the drumline plays Spider
Ahh. Booty. I like turtles. Hey girl. Woo-woo.
9. When you just sat down to eat and they say it's time to head to the field
I cant tell you how many pieces of pizza I scarfed down or how many bags of goldfish I managed to shove in my uniform all because I was at the back of the line.
10. Our director when the heart set even slightly resembled a heart in the Pentatonix show
Lets face it, we hardly ever got that heart set to look right. But the few times we did, this is probably what his reaction was. At least before he asked us to do it again and it didnt resemble a heart...again.
There are millions of ways I could describe being in the Pride Band to you, but these "New Girl" gifs did it better than I ever could. I already cannot wait for these 62 days to be up.
