What Being Made In God's Image Really Means

We are blessed to be able to live the life that God has called us to.

What Being Made In God's Image Really Means
Catherine Linnihan

One definition of life is "the existence of an individual human being or animal." I think most of the time we forget about Who made us and why we are here on this earth. God makes it very clear when He talks about creating us in Genesis.

Genesis 1:26-28 says, "Then God said, 'Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness. They will rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the livestock, all the earth, and the creatures that crawl one the earth.' So God created man in His own image; He created him in the image of God; He created them male and female. God blessed them, and God said to them, 'Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth, and subdue it. Rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, and every creature that crawls on the earth.'"

God did not just make us, He blessed us and made us in His image and His likeness! God made us to live on this earth for Him and not for anyone else. I think we often forget about how God has blessed us and that we were made in the image of God. He did not have to make us or create us in His image, but He did because He loves us. The world is so tempting everywhere we go, but we have to hold onto His love and grace that He gives us. We have to remind ourselves that God has a plan for everything that we do.

My birthday is taking place this week and as I reflect on what has happened in my 18 years that I have been on this earth, I am thankful for everything that has happened in my life, especially within this past year. It is awesome to see how awesome God is and how He works in our lives. I am grateful that God finally showed me what I needed to do for Him. I found out that I had not been living for Him and that I needed to do it.

This past year has been amazing to see God in a way I have never seen Him because I actually trust in Him with my life. I could not have asked for a better way to end my senior year of high school than to live for God. He has put some awesome friendships in my life lately. I have been blessed to have awesome friends that love the Lord and love me for who I am!

As I reflect on life, I think about the life we have here on earth and the eternal life we will have in heaven. I am constantly being reminded about how we need to live for the Lord everyday and all day. It is hard to do because the world is always getting our attention with something, but we can overcome anything with God!

I am extremely blessed with everything the Lord has provided for me, from wonderful friends, to awesome mentors and leaders in the church, to an awesome college who loves the Lord, and to just have the opportunity to live for the Lord. God has done a lot of things in my life that I would have never expected to happen.

Have you thought about your life that God has given you, whether it is life on this earth or eternal life? Are you living for God or are you just living the worldly life? If God had not have created human beings, we would not be here, but obviously He has a plan for us that we need to follow. We often forget our fragile life is, but we are not guaranteed for tomorrow. So, remember that life is so much more than what we often think it is.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
