Being Indecisive: A Blessing And A Curse

Being indecisive can either hold you back and push you forward.

As the most indecisive person that I know, I understand that being indecisive isn't always seen as a good thing, but honestly, I can't really decide how I feel about it.

On one hand, being indecisive can be negative. Your indecisiveness can be the thing that you fall back on and the reason that you don't pursue your dreams. You can let it hold you back, by not making the decision to move forward. You can use it as an opportunity not to choose life, and to remain stagnant, because you couldn't handle the pressure of choosing and being wrong.

It can hold you back from being the spontaneous and fearless person that you want to be. This is the side that you try to please by doing a little bit of everything until you wear yourself thin. This is the side that leaves you with nothing when you couldn't decide what you really wanted. This is the side that I hate, the side that I wish that I could erase and leave behind.

On the other hand, being indecisive can be positive. You can make more calculated decisions in your life when it really counts instead of making impulsive decisions that you don't really believe in. If you don't know what you want to do, you might try out the options before making that decision which could lead to even more new opportunities.

You could figure out who you are and what you want to be by trying these new things. This is the side that leads you to the realization that you're not sure what you want out of life, but you'll try everything to figure it out. This is the side that brings you to new places with new people who are all just as confused as you. This is the side that always leaves you wanting more. This is the side that I love.

Maybe it isn't indecisiveness that is bad, but rather what is bad is using it as an excuse to not make a decision. Maybe as long as those people who can never seem to make a decision use that to their advantage, it can be something that turns out to be constructive and promising.

So to those people who feel like the weight of a decision is on their shoulders; take calculated risks, try new things, and make mistakes. Just try not to stay static for too long, because the world is going to keep on spinning whether we like it or not.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
