Leaving Your Family for the summer

Missing key moments in life: I know that each summer since my sophomore year of high school I would miss birthdays, celebrations, and important moments with my family. It can seem that your family has forgotten you and you just watch them post a thousand pictures that you should be a part of but you're out here making money moves. It's okay, I get it but rest assured, they miss you as much as you miss them.

Getting to know new people: You get to meet such amazing people that even after you part ways, you still talk consistently and even visit each other. Shout out to Gabi and Sheccid #JSAFam After five years of knowing one another, Gabi is still my girl and I know that she is only a phone call away.

Traveling can be exhausting: Believe me, I know the struggle when your flight is at 6 AM in the morning and it seems that the entire world is also flying at the same time. Not to mention running behind schedule or having to take off every item for TSA. Caffeine becomes your best friend and it is okay to treat yourself at Starbucks, Peets, or Coffee Bean. My personal fave is Peets' vanilla latte with an almond croissant. #BougieLife

The tastes you will taste: Although you might get a stomach ache, when can you easily access cheap, authentic food while traveling? Tacos that you can actually buy on the street are possibly my ultimate weakness and reason that I cannot go vegan. The food is just amazing and with all the walking and exploring you will do, the pounds will not add up. *In my Bruce from Finding Nemo voice* foods are friends. I know that it is easy to upset your stomach, I have been there, but you cannot go to a new city and just get a burger from McDonald's. Ya got to live a little! Pop in some Pepto-Bismol and you should be go to go!

Oh, the places you'll see: You're young! When else in life can you travel without having to worry about your child, significant other, or goldfish? Right now, is the prime time to make the world your playground as I always say. I know that I do not regret my fourteen-hour flight to Beijing and getting to climb up a mountain to witness the beauty that is the Great Wall. Your grandkids will be fascinated by the endless stories of your travels. Not only that but you get to experience how other cultures and societies live!

I know getting to travel and live in other cities is an immense privilege which is why if you have that opportunity, do not give it up. You will regret it in the long run. I made my choice five years ago to attend JSA's Georgetown summer program, and since then, I have visited new places every summer. I started at 15 but it is never too late to start. When will you take off?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
