According to the one and only Urban Dictionary, a "sasshole" is a "combination of the word 'sassy' and 'asshole'. A person of great sarcastic wit, with the only thing keeping them from being a complete and utter asshole is their intentional comedic sass." These individuals are the ones you love to hate and hate to love.
Sassholes are often misinterpreted. People who don’t know them perceive them as a flat out assholes. It isn’t uncommon for them to say the wrong thing at the wrong time to the wrong person in the wrong setting. Sometimes the tension they create is palpable. Sassholes are nothing short of a handful, and no nudge to the ribs or dirty look will get them to curb the attitude, no matter the situation.
So what is it like to be friends with a certified sasshole? Constant entertainment. Sometimes it’s a sharp comment like those of the infamous Regina George; others, it’s an overly dramatic eye roll. No matter what, there is never a dull moment.
Sassholes speak their minds. They are the ones to say what everyone else is thinking but refrain from saying aloud. They are brutally honest (even when you wish they wouldn’t be), and at times, you think this friend completely lacks feelings. Matter of fact, you think they might be completely unaware that feelings are even a thing that people have. You know that they simply lack a filter, and as the friend of a sasshole, you learn to take the things they say lightly. You understand that their insults are simply meaningless jokes and their middle finger has become a term of endearment along with names that would be less than favorable when coming from anyone else... You get the point. They mean well.
Sassholes are often the center of attention and the life of the party. They can always be found making everyone laugh, including you (even though you hate to admit it). On occasion, you’re the butt of their jokes, but it’s all in the name of fun. They’re often one of the guys, probably because they can keep up with that weird guy sarcasm that you’ll never be able to understand. They are independent but love their time spent laughing with friends.
When you’re not a sasshole, being friends with one is entertaining. Matter of fact, it’s life-changing, even eye-opening. You wish you had their wit and could say what you wanted when you wanted without being judged for it, but you know that the two of you balance each other out. We all need a sasshole friend to keep things lively. How boring would life be without the edgy sarcasm that leaves them just short of an actual asshole? Answer: really freaking, insanely boring.
So thank you to all the sasshole friends out there. Our lives simply wouldn’t be the same without you.
