In every friend group there is someone who acts like a Mom. You could be 10 or 20, age doesn’t matter. I am someone who has always worn my heart on my sleeve and cared deeply about other people -- it is one of my best qualities. Because of this, I tend to care a little bit extra about my friends. Whether it's reminding them to eat lunch or helping them with their hair in the morning, I take care of them. Here are a few characteristics of the Friend Group Mom.
1. You know their iPhone passwords.
Sometimes your friends need you to get into their phone. Now this might be from alcohol or it might be while they are driving. But you always remember their passwords so you can text their boyfriends back or reassure their moms that they have not spent $100 on food that week.
2. You know their favorite things.
If you are meeting your friends somewhere and you happen to see that they left their wallet or water bottle at home, you grab it for them. If it’s cold outside, you grab an extra scarf for them so when you see them you can bundle them up. Pass the coffee shop? You get them a holiday cookie because you know it’s their favorite.
3. You are very defensive of your friends.
If someone is trying to start something with your friends at a party, you are the first one there. You instantly come to their defense about anything. Those are your babies and you will never let anyone hurt them. That professor that singled you out in class? Asshole. That girl that looked at your Crocs and sock combo? I'll let her her know a thing or two about fashion.
4. You know their limits better than they do.
You know right away when that last shot was one too many. You are the master of switching out alcohol for water. You know how many blocks they can walk in those heels, so you suggest maybe a nice pair of flats. You know that 6 pieces of pizza will make them regret eating anything at all. And maybe that 5 mile run should have been more like 1...
5. You are always the third wheel in relationships.
When one of your friends ventures off and falls in love, you have a lot of questions. After a full in person interview of the person worthy enough of your best friends attention, you give them a pass or fail. When you do pass them, you are always with them because c’mon, we love seeing them happy.
6. You help them make important life decisions.
Whether it’s picking a minor or picking what milkshake flavor they want, you are always there to walk them through it. No decision is a small one in their world, help them figure it out.
Sometimes us friend group Moms get bad reputations. Maybe we are too annoying, too nosey, or too involved. But at the end of the day your friends know that they always have someone to count on. They love you and know that you’ll always be there for them, and that makes it all worth it.
