Being an RA is really fun, most of the time, but the following memes perfectly describe how it feels to go through the absolute struggle bus of being an RA when we literally just ~can't even~ with our residents.
When your residents hella disrespect quiet hours:
^me every time
When residents try and talk you out of giving them a CR when you catch them drinking:
You're drunk and telling me "this can be our little secret" and I feel hella uncomfy
"We don't even have alcohol in here" this is probably my favorite line from someone who was just screaming "SHOTS! SHOTS! SHOTS!" before I knocked on their door :)
When you have to tell residents that they need to chill with the super loud sex:
This is always super weird because if you wanna bang someone on the hall you guys should bang (~consent is key~), but when the walls are paper thin and you're not even trying to be considerate of everyone else on the hall it just gets a lil awk.
Dealing with unfortunate roommate conflicts:
"My roommate came home drunk, threw up on the floor and then fell asleep in it, what do I do"
When someone vandalizes the poster you spent 2 hours working on:
Pls get your drunk paws off my Harry Potter welcome poster. Also, don't even think about ripping down my door decs.
When you just don't have the answer for anything and you feel really, really useless:
"I'm sorry I really don't know where you can park right now if you don't have a pass!!"
When you have to deal with parents
"Yea I can't really confirm / deny or disclose anything about your kid because FERPA"
"Why does my son / daughter have a room mate? Can they somehow get a single?"
When you leave for the weekend to go to another university:
"Bye Felicia"
But at the end of the day you really love those nuggets because they're the light of your life!
Being an RA is hard, but being a college student is hard too. We get it because we're students and that's why we do this job. I love my residents, coworkers and boss. I honestly couldn't imagine having any other job on campus. And even though I make fun of my lil nuggets and even though I give them a hard time for being shambly af I really do care about them. That's why I'm there at 2am to have the tough conversations, to let them cry on my futon because they're going through a hard break up or to just help them figure out what the fuck they want to do with their life. I don't always have the answers, but I'm always there for them when they need me and sometimes that's enough.
