New beginnings come in all different forms: switching schools, moving, getting married, etc. A fresh start and a new chapter in life is something to value. Whether it's the end of a relationship, the start of a new friendship or a new routine, change is good. Change is beneficial; scary, yes, but beneficial to the human person no doubt.
Look at it from the perspective of college. My name is Brooke and here I am, two and a half weeks into my first journey away from home, otherwise known as freshmen year. I have new classes, textbooks, friends and a new attitude toward my situation.
I will be the first to admit that Scranton wasn't my dream school, nor was it anywhere close to that title. However, there was benefit on my side and a new opportunity, so I took it. Now, I'm sitting on my bed in my dorm, noting my new friends and reminiscing about my old ones.
It's stressful, no doubt, but this independent ride that I'm on is making me feel like I can do anything (within legal parameters that would not otherwise cause harm to my person or anyone around me). I don't have my family near me, or my best friends, but I'm looking at the bright side of things: my new start.
So that's how I fit in here, at Odyssey. I'm taking a passion of mine, writing, and turning it into a reality. What anyone who reads my entries will receive is a first class ticket into my mind.
It will be rants, stories, advice, poems and most importantly, my imagination. I'm a strange kid with a wild hunger for the creative and I'd like to give the world a little piece of my mind. I'm on my way to achieving something I've dreamt of for such a long time and I hope that this leap of faith, this huge stepping stone in my life, is just what I need.
Long story short, any new beginning is scary, but change is good. It makes you reevaluate the things you put first in your life and helps you realize the person you were before the start of the journey, while pushing you to become a better version of yourself (hopefully). Keep pushing yourself, dreaming big and thinking outside of the box. The world needs more strange people. It's time for change.
