Growing up, I was a morning person. I loved maximizing my day time hours... until I hit 13 years old. Suddenly, waking up early was impossible. My eyes would burn, my brain would feel like mush, and my stomach would feel slightly queazy as soon as my first (out of 15) alarms would ring. This year, I want to become a morning person. Here are a few things I'm changing to make my mornings seem less like a death sentence and more like a peaceful moment.

1. Prep Your Things the Night Before

Recently, I have incorporated "prepping" into my nightly routine. Before hopping into bed, for instance, I put my assignments for the next day into my backpack and lay out a potential outfit on my desk chair. I've realized that this tip cuts a lot of extraneous time out of your morning routine which leaves more time for an extra cup of coffee or tea.

2. Make Your Bed

I have always been terrible at making my bed. The past few weeks, I have been making it a mission to make my bed as soon as my feet hit the ground. Accomplishing this task not only makes your room look a little neater, but it also halts the urge of climbing back in and hitting snooze a few more times.

3. Eat Something

As cliché as it sounds, breakfast truly is the most important meal of the day. Whether it's a full-on omelet from the dining hall or a small container of yogurt, eating something provides your brain with some substance to work with and sustained energy that will outlast your morning coffee.

4. Get Active

If you're like me and start classes during the late morning to early afternoon hours, scheduling in a quick morning workout can be a great way to get some endorphins flowing. I choose to do SoulCycle classes in the morning; however, any workout that gets you moving and motivated is a perfect addition to your morning routine. I find that after working out, I feel more energized and ready to tackle my classes.

Regardless of these tips, the first step of having a great morning is to get some sleep. These four tips only enhance your morning; so, carpe diem and get out of bed!

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.
