Since middle school, I’ve always been one of those girls who have obnoxiously long hair. My long hair was my safety blanket. It was typically my most complimented feature and for a long time, I thought that was my “selling point." We are now nine days into the new year, and I decided to do something drastic: chop my majestic long locks. Initially, I wanted a trim. It turns out that my hairdresser cut more than I expected, yet I’m extremely satisfied with the results. Here are seven reasons why you should cut your hair.
1. Your long hair is probably not healthy.
Long hair is time-consuming and difficult to maintain. Once you chop it off, you’ll save so much more time and money since you won’t be using as much shampoo. Your hair will then be revitalized and you can always grow it out, but with now a fresh start.
2. You’ll have more time on your hands.
Now that you don’t have to take as much time doing your hair, you have time for other things! I’m so happy I don’t have to spend thirty minutes blow drying my hair plus fifteen more minutes straightening. Now I have time to watch an episode of a show or make food
3. You feel like a different person.
New hair equals new start. I feel edgier and more mature with my shorter hair. It’s insane how much our hair affects our mood; with my new hair I’m less prone to bad hair days. This small change in my everyday life encourages me to opt for more changes and become more adventurous.
4. Some people won’t notice.
Although you obviously notice this change in your appearance and you may be self-conscious, you’ll come to realize that some people won’t even realize you cut your hair.
5. Your hair doesn’t get caught in everything anymore.
Before my haircut, I went to Walmart with my brother and my hair somehow ended up stuck in his jacket. Fortunately, I don’t have to worry about that anymore.
6. Your hair doesn’t shed as much.
Say goodbye to finding hair everywhere and vacuuming as much! Your friends, family, and significant other will be thankful they don’t have to find your crusty hair on everything.
7. It will grow back.
I contemplated hair a lob cut for over a year, but I kept holding on to my long hair. Ultimately, I’m happy I tried something new. I do miss my long hair, but it will grow back eventually. If you do cut your hair short and aren’t satisfied with the results, opt for extensions.
Go out there and cut your long hair! It's a new year and you should try something different with your look. Good luck!
Above is my hair transformation!
