I'm about to finish up my first year here in college, and while I still have a whole lot left to learn, there are some lessons I have taken away over the past few months. In full honestly, I really feel like I'm just now getting settled, and the semester is almost over. And honestly, there were some things that I wish I had known ahead of time.

1. You will oversleep occasionally. This is not the end of the world.

Every so often, you will plan to take a short nap before your next class, but wake up several hours later, or accidentally wake up after your morning class has already started. This is an issue if it is happening over in over, but for most people, it only happens once or twice. The best thing to do is to laugh at yourself and move on with your life.

2. You will probably change your major.

And before you say that you have your life figured out, I thought I did too, and it ended up hurting me. If you tell the world you have it all together, that will only make it more stressful when you suddenly realize that you don't

3. It's okay to drop a class.

Basically everyone is going to end up dropping a class eventually. I struggled until the last minute last semester because I didn't want to admit to myself that I needed to drop my math class. I finally did though, and am glad I did. My gpa would have suffered otherwise.

4. Stock up on food.

Trust me, there will be days when the thought of walking to the caf to get food will make you cry. And if you have food there in the dorm, you won't have too! Plus, it comes in handy for those days with nasty weather.

4. You will be confused.

Don't worry too much about it, we all are.

5. Time passes quicker than you think it will.

Honestly, It feels like I just got here, but the semester is almost over. Keep that in mind whenever you're homesick, missing your family, or thinking about putting off that project that's due next week.

I've still got a long three years ahead of me, but I've grown as a person so much within the past few months. Keep ahead of everything, keep your friends close, and take advice given to heart.

You've got this!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
