1. "No makeup" makeup.
One of the most frequently seen trends on the runway this year was a very bare and basic makeup look. Some designers even elected to have their models wear absolutely no makeup and just a touch of lipstick! Fresh faces, bright skin, and dewy looks are sure to be popular next spring.
How-to: Cleanse and moisturize face. With your preferred tool, apply a sheer or light coverage foundation. Mix in a little bit of cream highlighter for a fresh and dewy look.
2. Just-bitten lips.
Instead of the dark 90s lip that is so prevalent for fall, spring 2016 lips are simple and with just a tiny bit of color for a look that screams, "I just kissed someone!" Or alternatively, maybe you just bite your lips a lot. It's a simple look that's perfect for a day-to-day basis and is so low-maintenance you'll never want to wear lipstick again! (Okay, maybe not.)
How-to: Exfoliate lips and apply a lightly tinted lip product for a hint of color. Or use a simple lip balm for the moisture and shine you want to achieve!
3. Bold eyeliner.
It's no surprise that winged eyeliner was everywhere to be seen on the runways this season. Winged eyeliner is classic, timeless, and never goes out of style. It does take a lot of time, dedication and precision to master, but once you've got it, you'll look so great everyone will want to copy your look.
How-to: Practice, practice, practice! Common ways to perfect the winged eyeliner look are using scotch tape, a spoon, or by, shall we say, winging it! Gel eyeliner applied with a brush and liquid liner are some of the most popular ways to apply it, but that's not to say you can't think out of the box and use a different kind of eyeliner.
4. Ponytails with a twist
An easy but super cute hairstyle that was featured a lot during NYFW was twisted ponytails. It's simple, it's easy to do, and anyone can do it with long enough hair! What more could you ask for in a hairstyle?
How-to: Arrange hair in a ponytail, whether it be a high pony, on the side, or at the nape of your neck. Split hair in two sections and twist both separately, then twist them together tightly and tie them with a hair tie and you're done!
5. Pop of color.
Arguably the most colorful trend this season, little pops of color in makeup looks were definitely all over the runway. Whether they be on the lips, eyes, or nails, they were bright, fun and attention-grabbing! You can never go wrong with a bright pink lipstick or a fun blue eyeliner.
How-to: For a bright lip, find a pigmented and long-lasting lip product that's bright enough you can see from space, apply it, and voila! For eyeliner, find a fun blue, green, red, or any color eyeliner and apply it as you would with regular eyeliner. If you're feeling brave, try a winged eyeliner!
