This is for all the students who, like me, do not go to the beach for spring break. As much as I love the beach, it just has never been a practical option for me. However, just because I am not sitting in the sun, with the sand in my toes does not mean I cannot have a relaxing time. Here are some of my ideas for having a good break.
Enjoy some alone time.
As college students, alone/chill time becomes a luxury instead of a priority. Spring break is a whole week with no classes, no homework, and no parking troubles. And if you have to work, at least you can focus on just work, instead of work AND school. At this point in the semester, everyone deserves some down time.
Start a new book, finish a half-read one, or re-read a book or series.
If you are like me, and enjoy reading but can't find the time, spring break is a good time to do that. As an English Major, I am constantly bound to reading books for school, and barely have time for leisurely reading. I know that I will have plenty of dead time over break so I definitely plan on catching up on my reading. I am either going to read I'll Give You the Sun (which is actually a school assignment) and/or re-read Harry Potter.
Start a new TV show.
If you have Netflix and a laptop, you are good to go. Netflix adds lots of new shoes all the time, and without that, I would not have discovered some of my all-time favorite shows. If you are looking for a good show to watch, here are my suggestions: How I Met Your Mother, Friends, Merlin, and Reign.
Catch up with some friends or family.
If you are planning on going home, but not doing anything exciting, now is the time to catch up on life with your parents, siblings, and hometown friends (especially if they happen to have the same break as you). I am sure they have lots of questions about how your life at college is going. I, for one, am looking forward to spending time with my mom since we have trouble making time on the phone to talk. Also, one of my best friends, who goes to a different college, has the same spring break. I am excited that we will get the opportunity to hang out.
Enjoy the outdoors.
Just because the beach is not an option, does not mean you have to stay inside all day. The weather is starting to get nice, and Spring is right around the corner. Go on a hike, sit on the porch, take a walk, or go window shopping downtown. Now is the time to take advantage of the mildly hot weather, before it gets too hot.
Go shopping.
Buy yourself something nice. College is hard, especially spring semesters. You deserve something nice. It does not have to be expensive or even significant. Go get ice cream, or buy something off your amazon wish-list.
While I would love to be at the beach, I love spring, and I am ready to enjoy it here at home.
