It's here, we've finally reached the time where we begin our Christmas shopping. The year is concluding and we are all running out of time, and we can hardly believe it. We're all a little stressed, and the deals that will ensue on both Thanksgiving and Black Friday will be very temping for an average shopper. With that being said, keep in mind that retail workers are the ones providing you with your shopping experience and the amenities. Coming from one who works retail himself, it is by no means easy. It's already hard enough pleasing everyone. The legendary saying, "Treat everyone the way you'd like to be treated" goes a long way. It's already hard enough trying to please everyone, and to remain calm in the midst of literal chaos on the sales floor.
The origination of the biggest shopping day of the year comes from Philadelphia and Rochester way back when, to describe the crowds that were Christmas shopping the day after Thanksgiving. In more recent decades, Black Friday has come to become a great force to be reckoned with. We've become accustomed to the culture, and the concept itself has further expanded itself into other retail shopping holidays like Super Saturday and Cyber Monday. Close to 100 million in America will be seeking their chance to get a killer deal. For retail companies, it will be make or break for their fiscal year.
Black Friday is definitely not something to look forward to. Whether it be the sparsity of parking spaces or the anxiety-inducing plumes of crowds attempting to make their way into the mall. Going into the day, many customers will arrive with a clear agenda and know exactly what they want, and will not stop anywhere to make sure they get their discounts. Unfortunately, there is a few instances in which some of us workers make initial mistakes on the register and many will be extremely quick to berate the worker to ensure their discount is accounted for or ensure their item of choice is in stock. Sometimes discounts can be misleading and it can cause a customer to become extremely frustrated. Just know we are all a little stressed, and although a degree of preparation can be made ahead of time, there's no telling the degree of how bad it actually will be.
There is a lot at stake on both sides. We are all human. We are trying our best, and just know that. You may be angry, but think twice before letting that worst quality of yourself come out from inside of you. I write this as a reminder to everyone to be kind to others, especially on Black Friday. Your kindness will go a very long way and on days like this, it can go a long way.
Happy Christmas season!
