Why is that when issues arise, we automatically blame ourselves? Whether it is about our weight or harsh grades that come back to us, we think we can do better. True, possibly you can, but is it worth beating yourself up over? No.
Life is hard. It is a general known fact that has stuck with humanity forever. There is no short cut through life, no easy path, no rule book, no play by play. We expect someone to have all the clues of how to get through life successfully. I’m sorry to say, there is no one who has gotten through life without any hardships. Mistakes, bad decisions, hardships, all make us who we are and define us. And, to be perfectly honest, they are what get us through life.
And once you understand that life is a challenge that will have its down hills, cliffs, twists and turns, you should not be so hard on yourself. Blaming yourself for the troubles in life will not achieve anything. Beating yourself up over things you have done incorrectly will only hold you back. Contemplating words that you should have said does nothing-- it is in the past. Insecurities of the should’s, could’s, would’s will only push you backwards towards negative concepts.
There will be horrible days. Days when you feel like your life is crumbling like a sand castle getting hit by a wave. Days when nothing is going right. Days when you believe everyone is against you and judgement is at large. Days when you just want to give up. Those days are okay. You need those days to understand life is a struggle.
“Life is one big road with lots of signs. So when you riding through the ruts, don't complicate your mind. Flee from hate, mischief and jealousy. Don't bury your thoughts, put your vision to reality. Wake Up and Live!” – Bob Marley
Stop. Think for a second how far you have come. Whether you are fifteen or sixty five years old, you have made it. It takes a lot to be where you exactly are. Think of all the arguments, fights, cries and nightmares you have gotten through. Your biggest fear at the age of five was the monster living around your bed. Did you overcome your fear? Yes. Your biggest trouble in fifth grade was failing your math exam. Did it ruin your entire school career? No. You get through these hardships, slowly, at your own pace. Everyone has different challenges that define them. Don’t let yours negatively define your life and how you view it.
Life. Is. Hard. You are doing the best you can and don’t think otherwise. If you can accomplish the monster under your bed, you can beat any hardships in your head. Continue to go through each day believing you can trick your troubles. Do not blame yourself. Remember, there is no easy path for life. It will kick you in the butt. Just understand that you have beat it before, you can do it again. Be easy on yourself.
