Diamonds are a girls best friend. Or, at least that's how the saying goes. Girls are brought up to like sparkly, pretty things, and that includes themselves. It's hard growing up and idolizing women that look as skinny as a piece of paper, are photoshopped to the extreme and have makeup caked on their faces. Everyone loves getting dressed up for a big night, whether it's prom, a formal or even your wedding. Days when you are suppose to feel glamorous and have all eyes on you calls for all the stops, but what about a normal day?
I don't think men understand how long and time-consuming makeup is. First you have to prime, then come the multitude of layers along with finishing spray, and that's just for your skin. There's eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara and countless other products that women put on their faces to feel pretty. Don't get me wrong, makeup is awesome and makes everyone feel pretty, but I believe that a lot of women hide behind their makeup because they aren't comfortable with their own skin.
Before I got to college I was the girl who wouldn't go anywhere unless I had at least some makeup on. Whether it be school, the mall or to dinner, my game face was on. I didn't think that would ever change; then, college hit me. Pulling all nighters writing papers, finishing that worksheet you put off until the night before or redoing a group project because everyone else is useless. That is a normal week for a college student and the only thing on their mind is sleep, and trust me, every minute counts. For me, I had to choose: sleep or makeup? Without a doubt I chose sleep. I realized that I don't need makeup to feel pretty.
Ladies, guess what, self-confidence is sexy. No one cares that you aren't wearing makeup, they're actually impressed. Yes, you might get those comments, "Wow you look tired" or "Hey there, rough night?" *cue the eye roll* Ignore those bozos. Society has programmed everyone to think unless a women spends and hour and a half getting ready that she isn't trying or doesn't care. You can be on the top of your game without wearing any makeup, because makeup isn't beauty. Yes, makeup can be amazing at covering up those mini volcanos we all get on our face every now and then, but focus on the normal day-to-day activities. Ladies, lets start being more confident in our own skin and showing off everything that makes us unique.
