Be Bold, Be You.

How one quote inspired me to do better.

"Don't let anything define you. Be broad.”

This is a quote, which may seem minuscule to some, but was monumental to me. In life, many feel the pressure to conform to societal norms. For some, it may seem just too scary to go outside of their comforts zones and drift away from the pack. For others, it is just a normal part of life to be risky and to take chances. I find myself struggling to break out and be different.

There is a never-ending pressure for us to look a certain way. I chose to use “us” because men and women are put into a box of how we should look and act based on society’s opinion of “gender norms”. Men should be strong, outspoken, and athletic and women must be thin, reserved, and dainty. When one decides to venture outside of those “gender norms”, they often face a great amount of ridicule and harassment.

We also put a lot of pressure on ourselves to constantly be perfect. When we make mistakes, we often try to hide them out of fear of being ridiculed by others. Some may try to hide those mistakes and decisions. But the truth is, mistakes are a part of life. Everyone makes them and no one is perfect.

No matter where you come from, what your background is, or the decisions you have made in the past, choose to continue to live your life and refuse to focus on the past. Do not let your past or what others think of you define who you are as a person and what you are capable of in the future. Choose to reinvent yourself and continue to let both yourself and your mind grow. Challenge yourself to go outside of your comfort zone. Surround yourself with people who you love and who love you just as much. Try your best to see the beauty in the world around you because I promise there is a lot of it. I know it can seem scary and the world may seem dark at times, but there is always a light at the end of the tunnel and new adventures to be had.

Be bold. Be you. And don’t let anyone or anything define you.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
