5 Bands I Will Have To Miss This Summer

Summer is the time for jamming at concerts, but for me that will not happen.

5 Bands I Will Have To Miss This Summer

In honor of me, Yasmine Ayad, having to miss a favorite band's surprise stop in Philly because of Ramadan (where music is switched for the Quran in order to become more pure), here are some other Philly-bound bands that I enjoy but that I will have to miss because of various excuses.

1. Years and Years. Concert date: June 6th

Years and Years is my favorite band right now! I know every song of their album by heart, so the expression on my face was like this when I saw they were having a surprise stop in Philly:

But then my expression went from happy to sad really quick when I saw when their concert date was:

Keep in mind that I am a concert virgin, so I was so happy expecting that Years and Years would be my first concert... but the concert date unfortunately had to be on the first day of Ramadan, which is the holy month in Islam, and music takes away from the holiness.

2. The 1975. Concert: June 16 and 18

Ramadan is for a month, and unfortunately June 16th and 18th both end up in that month, causing another "no show" from me for a band that causes me to feel so many emotions even if I was perfectly fine before listening to them. They also show the sadness that I'll be missing their concert:

3. Panic! at the Disco. Concert: July 5th

Although I was a P!ATD listener in middle school I haven't really been following them until this year when my friend from college showed me their new album and I fell in love with it. Imagine the excitement I had when she told me that they were performing close by in the summer, but of course it conflicted with the my schedule because I will be out of the country (in Algeria) by then.

4. Coldplay. Concert: August 6th

Coldplay was always a long time favorite for me since middle school, so it would be a dream to see them, but unfortunately for me I will still be out of the country.

5. Drake and Future. Concert: August 21st

Just five days before I come back to America, Drake and Future decide to have a concert in Philly. Why could they not sense that I want to see them in concert and move their concert forward?!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
