One of the greatest things in the whole world is discovering a new band. Or at least, a band that is new to you. My latest discovery is With Confidence, an awesome pop punk band from Sydney, Australia. Their classic pop punk sound and insanely raw lyrics made them quickly become one of my favorites.
The band formed back in 2012 with Jayden Seeley (bass and lead vocals), Joshua Brozzesi (drums), Inigo Del Carmen (guitar and backing vocals) and Samuel Haynes (guitar). Like many before them, the group started by posting covers of popular songs to YouTube. Check out one of their earlier, and hysterical, covers here.
The foursome released their first EP, "Youth", in the summer of 2013. In January of 2014, the band announced the departure of guitarist, Samuel Haynes, via Facebook. This, thankfully, did not stop the band from making awesome music. Luke Rockets joined the band in September 2014. After the lineup changes, they released a second EP, "Distance" in 2015. Including hits such as "Godzilla" and "I Will Never Wait." They have supported a number of killer bands on tour, this list includes the likes of Kids In Glass Houses, You Me At Six and Tonight Alive. They even joined the Australian leg of 5 Seconds of Summer’s Sounds Live Feels Live world tour. Early this year, the band signed with Hopeless Records. Sounds familiar? That is because that same record label boasts legendary artists such as Sum 41, Avenge Sevenfold, Yellowcard and All Time Low. Let’s just say it is a match made in heaven.
What makes With Confidence so great? Well, they make amazing music. Forgoing the superficial lyrics that seem to be dominating the sound waves lately, they have written songs that explore the complexities of the human experience. One of the best examples of this is "Waterfall", my personal favorite With Confidence track. It is a heartbreaking picture of someone looking back at a failed relationship and asking for some justification after realizing it was one-sided.
Their first full-length studio album, "Better Weather," was released in June of 2016. As you may have expected, the album is awesome! With some obvious influences by the likes of Blink 182 and All Time Low, the album features killer songs that fans like me could only dream of listening to live. But for the meantime, they have some pretty sweet music videos to watch on repeat. Their latest, and may I just say my favorite, music video is for their song "Voldemort" off of "Better Weather."
Next up for the band? Their Australian headline tour starts on October 19 in Leederville WA and this December they will support Real Friends on their UK tour.
So break a leg boys and PLEASE come to the US soon!
