Every band starts out as one of those "local bands" that play in bars or small venues on Friday and Saturday nights. All of those bands set out to do one thing in most cases and that's live out their dream of playing music as a job. Central Pennsylvania and the surrounding areas have a bigger music scene than most people think. Here are three bands from PA that you need to check out now.
American Evil is a hard rock band hailing from Northumberland, PA. If you like "in your face" rock, then this band is definitely for you. I asked guitarist Russell Zellers who he would compare themselves to and he said, "I'd personally say we sound like "Wilson" and "Guns & Rose's" meets "AC/DC" and "Motley Crue" in a Tag Team title fight." AE recently released their album, "Superautomatica" which was recorded by Ryan Frost of the band "Burn Halo." They're set to embark on a tour in February and March, so if they roll through your area I would suggest you make it a point to check them out. Their high energy show will not disappoint you, I can assure you of that.
A Scent Like Wolves is a five-piece metal outfit from Reading, PA. These guys are currently signed to "We Are Triumphant Records" and "Maxtreme Records". ASLW just recently returned home from their tour in Japan/China. If you're looking for a band with thrashing verses, but choruses you can sing along to, this is a band for you. They released their album, "Frigid Future" in early 2016 and have since released two music videos for the songs, "Haunted" and "Hands Like Porcelain." Keep an eye out for what these guys have coming in 2017.
Colors Best Kept Black is a four piece hard-rock group also coming from Northumberland, PA. CBKB was founded in 2013 while the members were still in high school. After countless line up changes, the band settled on their permanent line-up in the summer of 2016. With every member blending their favorite types of music together they got their own unique sound. If you had to compare them though, think of Breaking Benjamin. The band recently recorded a few songs with producer Brett Alexander from, "The Badlees". He also has credit from working with Breaking Benjamin. Colors Best Kept Black are slated to released their full-length album in the Summer of 2017, so keep an eye out for those guys.
I know first hand that these bands put their heart and soul into the music that they make. Whether or not they play to a sold out crowd or 25 people they give it 100% every time. Next time you see that any of these bands are playing in your area make sure to go give them all a listen. They won't disappoint and they appreciate the support. Always support your local artists.
