Being in college can sometimes put a strain on your money, hence the term “Broke college student.” So when it’s time to shop, don’t fret. I have some money saving tips and tricks that are guaranteed to save you a couple of extra dollars in your bank account.
1. Always search for coupons.
Whenever I go shopping I always go online and google to see if the store has any coupons available. You can always ask to see if you can use expired coupons because some stores will still take them.
2. Shop clearance.
3. Ask for a student/military discount.
If you have your student or military ID on you, some stores offer a discount. Even if you aren’t in school you can still get the discount if you saved your ID.
4. Price match.
If you bring in an ad advertising an item for a lower cost, some stores will match that price.
5. Lay-a-way.
Some stores offer this service to people who want an item, but don’t have the money to pay right away. Some lay-a-way services hold items up to 30 days or more.
6. Shop online.
When you shop online things tend to be a tad bit cheaper than in the store. Also, when you shop online you can search for coupons to bring your total down. My favorite website to use is www.retailmenot.com.
7. Thrift shopping.
Stores like Goodwill have gently worn clothing at a cheap price. But if you don’t think thrift stores are cool just think about Macklemore and Ryan Lewis when they shopped there.
8. Ask if a certain item will be going on sale soon.
If you ask a sales associate sometimes they will be able to tell you if an item will be going on sale soon if you can't afford it at that time.
