Bad Hombres
Odyssey

The United States is currently being plagued by a group of individuals who have little to no regard for human decency. They are are invading our communities, upsetting the social order and creating an unhealthy culture. Many of you may already know what group of people I am referring to, Bad Hombres. Who exactly are these Bad Hombres? Well, the answer to that question is a little long winded, but nonetheless I will attempt to point them out.

Bad Hombres tend to blend in pretty well in casual settings. For example, if you are watching TV with friends, you may not notice when your group is infiltrated by some unwanted guests. It is important that you pay close attention to the jokes being thrown around. If amid the small talk and cheesy jokes you hear something along the lines of "Man, I'm tired of seeing all these illegals complaining on TV. Just go back to where you came from." Be warned, you may be in the presence of a Bad Hombre. These side remarks are likely a small preview of their personal beliefs and values. Bad Hombres are scared of the unknown, which makes immigration a touchy subject. Having people come into the country from unfamiliar places is very unsettling because they pose a threat to their prominence and privilege. They conceal their personal insecurities by criminalizing these groups.

Those who are part of the dating scene may also unknowingly encounter Bad Hombres. With the large selection of dating apps that are one simple download away, it has become incredibly easy to meet new people. However; these apps can be very misleading. A handsome face can hide a lot of ignorance. If you are ever on a date with a guy who simply does not take no for an answer, and who calls you a tease for not accepting his advances, please seek safety. Bad Hombres feel entitled to having their way with women, with or without consent. They believe clothing can be an indicator of how a woman would like to be approached or touched, and also assume acceptance of a date includes an invitation to spend the night. These are definitely not the type of men we need in 2016.

Bad Hombres are everywhere. They can be disguised as an ultra-conservative professor, an overly touchy coworker, or even a passive aggressive boyfriend. For the most part, their offensive words and behavior will not stop unless they are explicitly and repeatedly called out and held accountable for them. This means that a simple side eye or even a middle finger will not fix the problem. When confronting Bad Hombres, it is important to recognize the severity of the situation and the true harm that the individual is inflicting on the community.

While Bad Hombres are a rising problem in the United States, I believe that they can be successfully combated. After all, it is 2016, our society has evolved and learned from its past mistakes. Because of our wider understanding of microaggressions and social injustices, it has become easier to pinpoint the individuals that are slowing down our progression. It's not like we're so stuck in the past that we would actually let Bad Hombres roam free and do as they please. This nation would never let backward individuals dictate social norms, gain cultural importance, or obtain political power, right?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
