As soon as you hit that alarm button, find yourself already cramming for an exam or simply asking yourself "why am I so tired after only three days of class?" you find yourself craving only one thing: a second chance to go back to a week before.
Oh yes, you know what week I’m talking about, the one filled with sandy beaches, cruise ships, and night life among other things. You find yourself giving your friends the look because what happens in spring break, well, stays in spring break. You look through your Instagram and Facebook photos of all the good times you had and of those that were there to share in the memories, and then suddenly it hits you. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms then you my friends have the post spring break blues.
The good news is you’re not alone, as college students everywhere are craving just one more day of being able to relive a carefree day with their friends and enjoy no responsibility whatsoever, but sadly it can’t be so. As depressing as it may sound, it doesn't mean that your days of fun are over by any means, but there are ways to have a smoother transition back to school.
Let’s start with getting our sleeping pattern back in order. Let’s face it, spring break has no time restrictions whatsoever, but unfortunately you can't bring up that excuse to your professor at 9:35 in the morning. Be mindful or your classes for the week especially your morning one and begin to go to bed at a reasonable time with your alarm(s) set up.
Depending on how your week went, the odds of a fully balanced diet on a daily basis are most likely pretty small. It is important to take the week to begin to fuel your body properly and no, pizza and midtown don’t count. Go grocery shopping early in the week if you have to and, if you’re on a meal plan, take advantage of the food being offered.
This one may go without saying, but do check your social media. The last thing you want is to be tagged in any embarrassing/inappropriate pictures or any questionable statuses. Keep in mind that any future employers may check your profile and, for those that are working, your current boss just might check as well.
Don’t forget the gym is your friend. Fitness is always a great opportunity to relieve any stress while improving yourself. Take this time to maintain that body you worked so hard to show off (rightfully so) for spring break or, if you have any goals you want to achieve, it’s never too early to begin working on them.
Fun doesn't end on spring break. You don’t have to wait till next year to have fun hanging out with your friends. Simple things like planning a day trip to Lake Wauburg or Ginnie Springs are always great times. A weekend beach trip or visiting Orlando and its many theme parks are always a go-to option as well.
So there you have it, even though the first week back can always be a drag, there’s plenty you can do to get back on track and still have a great time. And for those of you who can’t wait for even more fun, don’t worry summer vacation will be here before you know it.
