12 Awesome Books And Book Series To Read This Summer

During the school year there is little time to read the books we want to read. All of our time is filled up with projects, papers, homework, tests, quizzes, and pages upon pages of articles and novels that we have to read for school. The amount of assigned reading we have to do in high school is piled up high, but the amount of assigned reading you have to do in college is piled up even higher, especially when you are a Creative Writing major like me. During the school year, I have to read a lot of books about the city where I go to school, classics, articles, and short stories -- only about 10 of them I actually wanted to read. While sometimes, like most people, I enjoy reading a classic or two, it is nice to kick my feet up, relax, and read the books over the summer that I have been dying to get to. There is nothing like leaving reality and entering a book's world for a day. Even if the time flies by, at least your time was captured by a good book!

1. "The D.U.F.F" by Kody Keplinger

Quick plot summary: A girl is insecure about not being as pretty as the rest of her friend group, and a boy shows her that she is more beautiful than she thinks. The perfect summer romance novel!

2. Any Nicholas Sparks Book

Woman meets man, they have a cheesy romance, but it's also the kind of romance that captures your heart and pulls your heartstrings. Have a box of tissues handy.

3. "Summer Trilogy" by Jenny Han

Feet in the sand, and a love story involving a girl and the two boys who make her fall head over heels, Jeremiah and Conrad, who are brothers. Which one will she choose?

4. "Twenty Boy Summer" by Sarah Ockler

A girl secretly dates her best friend's brother, her best friend's brother unexpectedly passes away, best friend thinks girl never had a summer romance and has her meet 20 boys during the summer, but her friend doesn't know that her brother was the right person for her.

5. Any Sarah Dessen Book

Not just cheesy teenage romances, but great reflections of what real life problems young girls go through as they grow up.

6. "The Carrie Diaries" by Candace Bushnell

What Carrie's life (from "Sex and the City") was like as a teen working in the fashion industry. One word: Sebastian!!!

7. "The Pretty Little Liars" Series by Sara Shepard

Romance, mystery, and events that will tingle you down to your spine and make your heart drop constantly.

8. "Eleanor & Park" by Rainbow Rowell

Boy meets girl, girl's family is poor and can't afford everyday hygiene items, girl is bullied, boy changes girl's life for the better. How adorable!

9. "The Hunger Games" Trilogy by Suzanne Collins

A drawing of teens' names to see who will be thrown into a game where they will all fight to the death and only one will live. Read the book before you watch the movies!

10. "The Fault in Our Stars" by John Green

Girl is a cancer victim who thinks she is a ticking time bomb who will hurt whoever is close to her, boy forces his way into her life and makes her life worth living again.

11. Any Stephen King Book

Suspense, spine-tingling chills, and teeth-chattering events. These books will shake you to your core and keep you up all night.

12. "The Lying Game" Series by Sara Shepard

Reunited twins, secrets unfolded, and romance intertwined.

Take time this summer to read all of the books you have been wanting to read, and reward yourself for all of the hard work you have done this school year!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
