It's strange when you meet someone and you have a connection. It's weird to vibe and understand each other, but the weird is so good. It makes you feel whole inside, like you found a missing puzzle piece and finally you are more. More vibrant, more excited, and more willing to have new life experiences with this new being.
But what about when your constant hangout sessions have to stop because, as it turns out, this new human that makes you feel amazing lives on the other side of the country?
I have two best friends, one that I'm lucky enough to sit next to while writing this, and see everyday, and one that lives halfway across the U.S.
When I met you, I didn't know that you would be someone that I hold so near and dear to my heart. I didn't know that every time we see each other, saying goodbye becomes so hard. Not only that, but when we go back to our lives, we don't talk as much or about things as important as the fate of the world (or the U.S.).
With that being said, being your friend is worth the plane rides (and lay overs *eye roll*), because we just pick up where we left off when the plane lands. It's worth all the phone calls when I'm having another life crisis. Being from California, you taught this small town, Iowa girl a thing or two about life. You came here and told me about life on your side of the world and my wanderlust heart was full. I was ready to pack up and move that first summer just to experience life somewhere else. You've cultured me.You've taught me a lot about myself and a lot about thinking for myself and having an open mind. You add a sense of calm to my life. If I hadn't met you, I don't know what sort of person I would be, but since meeting you I have become the person I believed and hoped for myself to be.
My long distance best friend is such a treasure. I only hope that everyone has a chance to meet someone from somewhere else that flips their world on it's head; someone who makes you want to experience life for yourself.
