I had the opportunity of attending the Auburn Panhellenic Expansion presentation by Delta Phi Epsilon last week, and thoroughly enjoyed getting to learn more about their amazing sisterhood. While I did not get to attend the Sigma Sigma Sigma presentation, I know either sorority would make an awesome addition to Auburn's campus.
Here are some fast facts about Delta Phi Epsilon:
Greek Letters: ΔΦΕ
Founded: March 17, 1917, at New York University Law School (the only National Panhellenic Conference sorority founded at a professional school)
Founders: Dorothy Cohen Schwartzman, Ida Bienstock Landau, Minna Goldsmith Mahler, Eve Effron Robin, and Sylvia Steierman Cohn
Colors: Royal Purple, Pure Gold
Mascot: Unicorn
Jewel: Pearl
Flower: The Lovely Purple Iris
Nickname: DPhiE
DPhiE has 7,500 active members, with 48,000 living alumnae, making it one of the smaller sororities in membership. Famous alumnae include Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), and Ofira Navon, former First lady of Israel
Delta Phi Epsilon's Mission Statement is "to provide a sisterhood experience rich with tradition, innovation and opportunities for growth.” Their motto is: Esse Quam Videri, which means to be, rather than to seem to be. It's three founding principles are justice, sisterhood, and love.
DPhiE supports three philanthropies: ANAD — Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and their own Educational Foundation, where sisters support sisters through scholarships and grants.
What colonization would entail:
- A Fall 2016 colonization, with marketing and PR starting in the Spring 2016 semester to recruit current students.
- Recruitment Events such as Be Informed informational night, Be Giving philanthropy night, Be Yourself one-on-one interviews, Preference Night, and Bid Day
- a Nine-Week Colony program with initiation at the end of the semester
- five-year New Chapter program, with at least two years of Collegiate Development Consultant support
- A strong alumnae base in Georgia
Panhellenic sure has a tough choice to make between two amazing sisterhoods, and we cannot wait for a new member to join our Panhellenic family!
