attention deficiency

thoughts on unconscious feelings stimulated by social media

attention deficiency

In simple words, nobody knows how to live anymore.
Unable to smile, to make eye contact, to open any doors,
To care, to communicate, to do the simplest things,
Huh? you say, what do you mean?
Too busy taking instas of food, eyes stuck on a screen
Opened to Twitter, ready for the latest beef just seen.

When's the last time you asked "what more?"
When's the last time you thought "what for?"
"What's the purpose of this?" Or "what's the meaning of that?"
What's the mentality necessary to bring us back?

A generation obsessed with likes, follows, and DMs
That never stops to see what more is within,
What's a baddie, popping xannys and addys,
Running around calling every man "daddy"?

Why idolize males with just money and tattoos?
The ones with the most attention? They're who?
And? Relevance?
Creativity? Intelligence?
Why idolize females with galleries solely of their bodies?
Is image such a valuable commodity?

Like it's just tragic
A world full of addicts

Attention addicts looking for reactions, no self-love,
No respect for themselves or for the big man above.
No shame in being confident and loving your image
But what's an image with no substance to enhance it?
No perspective, no thoughts,
No culture, nothing that can't be bought,
Stunting for the 'gram a lifelong benefit?
Right... You thought.

There's a difference between getting seen and getting knowed
When you're gone, what about you, what will be told?

Instead of contemplating "valencia" or "nashville"
On that selfie, from that night, likely on some pill,
Consider the world from a perspective more trill.
Why stop to publicize every moment at any will?
Pay no mind, just kick back and chill
Alleviate the fear of missing out
Being tagged ain't what it's all about
Unfollows shouldn't have the power to instill self-doubt,
Putting your worth in others is a self-destructive route.

I'm tired of this society driven by others' opinions
Whether you know it or not, you seek validation.
Reliance on good reactions leads only to aggravation,
Frustration with oneself for looking a certain way,
Inviting thoughts of insecurity to float at mind's bay.

Forget about the pictures, disregard snapchats and snapshots
Enjoy every moment, appreciate life in the time we've got

Work to build a better you,
Outspoken, open-minded, and most importantly, true.
Surround yourself with those unbothered

Unlike those whose only aspirations
Consist of blunts rolled to precision
And shots taken with no hesitation,
Or no chaser, no mixer, no room for wisdom.

Mend your personal embarrassments unbroken,
Find your inner peace with the world, unwoven--
Become the person you'd find worth knowing.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
