Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays because it is filled with good food and family. The morning usually starts off with everyone cooking and preparing for guests to come or preparing to go to the host's house. I always cook macaroni and cheese, steamed cauliflower, and my fiance makes his famous seafood pasta. We can't wait to have turkey and stuffing. Pumpkin pie is always a must!
Thanksgiving is also wonderful because most people have the day off from work and have the chance to spend time with family members they haven't seen in a while. But, what are we supposed to do when we have multiple Thanksgiving dinners to attend?
This is a struggle for me every year because I have three Thanksgiving dinners to attend. I don't want any of my family members to feel like I don't care about them, so I want to go to everyone's house. Both sets of my grandparents have dinner and my fiance's family invites us both over too. I end up going to see one set of grandparents for breakfast or late dinner around 6 p.m. Then, we go to my fiance's parents' house for lunch and follow up with dessert at my other grandparents' house.
This is the best way I have found to split up my family functions, but there are a few things that I want my family members to know:
1. I really do wish that I could stay the whole time that you have invited us over for.
2. I love you all and what time I come or how long I stay at your house has nothing to do with how much I love you.
3. If I could extend Thanksgiving to be a week long, I would just so I could spend quality time with all of you.
4. The food is amazing at everyone's house so, if I'm not loading up my plate with your food please do not take it as an insult. I'm trying to fit three delicious meals in my stomach all in one day.
5. If I miss seeing you because I'm late to dinner, I am really sorry. I know that I'm not the only family member with multiple places to go and I hope to see you soon.
6. I am extremely thankful to have y'all in my life and I don't ever want any of you to feel otherwise.
If you have multiple Thanksgiving dinners to attend as well I hope this helps you think about solutions and what to tell your family. My family members are all remarkable and I'm sure everyone else feels the same way about theirs. I look forward to all of the scrumptious food all month, but I really enjoy being able to see all of my family members. I hope all of you have a happy and wonderful Thanksgiving with all of your families. If you are going shopping, be careful!
