These are just a very small selection of the events going on during this year's welcome week so if there's anything else you're looking for, be sure to check out the ASU welcome week schedule here.

1. Passport

Passport at ASU

This is unarguably the most important event of the welcome week. If you go to nothing else, at least go here. This is where you'll find all of the different ways to get involved around campus in so many different things from the Hyperloop team to the Hip Hop Coalition. With over 700 organizations, you are pretty much guaranteed to find the place for you and there's no better way to do that than this event. Passport will be August 15 starting at 6:30 in the SDFC, Memorial Union, and the Student Pavilion. We have so many organizations that we need three buildings to fit them all!

2. Parent and Family Reception

We can't go completely crazy and leave our family for the excitement of starting college. Here's something you can enjoy along with your family. The parent and family reception for all freshman will be held August 12 at 4:30 in the Arizona Ballroom in the Memorial Union. There will also be a family event specifically for Barrett students right after that event at 6:15 in the same area.

3. Summerset Fest

This is quite possibly the most exciting event of all of welcome week. With all of the free t-shirts, a great DJ, free food, and even a zip line! The event starts at 8:00 on August 13 on the SDFC fields but getting there early is an absolute must. This will definitely be one of the highlights of your week.

4. Rock the Rec

This is one of the more fun events with a dive-in movie, lots of bouncy houses, fun activities, and, of course free food. This event will be on August 12 starting at 7:00 with the movie starting at 9:00 in the SDFC pool. There will also be another dive-in movie night at the SDFC again on August 27 starting at 7:30.

5. Whitewash the 'A'

asunow.asu.edu

This is one of those events that will really make you love ASU even more than you already do. Your entire class will be able to say they took part in whitewashing the "A" together and for those of you who don't already know, the "A" is the huge letter "A" on "A" mountain right next to the football stadium. If you live on-campus, your community assistant will probably bring you to this great event but just in case, it will be at 9:00 in the morning on August 18 on, of course, "A" mountain.

6. Sparky's Day of Service

Sparky's Day of Service is a great way to give back to the community that you are now apart of as well as getting to know some people within your school. Each school has their own day so check it out and sign up at this link: https://asu.volunteermatch.org/campaign/campaign_detail.jsp?id=1107615

7. Greek Block Party

If you think Greek life is for you, or even if you don't but still want to check it out, this event will allow you to meet with some of the great people that make up the Greek community at ASU. This super fun event will be August 17 starting at 7:00. If cultural Greek life is something you're more interested in, the cultural Greek councils will also be having an open house on August 28 at 6:00. Both of these events will be taking place in the brand new Greek Leadership Village! There will also be an involvement fair for professional fraternities on August 23 at 11:00 in the Vista dome so there are plenty of ways for you to be involved with Greek life.

8. MU Takeover

If you're into free things, aka everyone, this event is for you! Of course there will be other fun stuff to do as well but the free stuff is the real draw for me personally. This year it will be taking place in both the MU and the Student Pavilion on August 11 starting at 8:00.

9. Barrett Beach Blast

If you're a member of Barrett, this event is a must. It's a mini passport event for those organizations that are specifically tailored to Barrett students. It will take place on August 12 at 6:00 in the Barrett complex.

10. Ask Me Booths

Ok so this one isn't technically an event but still incredibly useful. I can almost guarantee everyone reading this list has had at least one mini freak-out about finding their way around campus. Not to worry! On August 13 and 16, there will be booths set up all around campus with people who can help you find anything you may need. I would recommend going around to check out where your classes are before they actually start and August 13 would be a great opportunity to do this with the booths set up everywhere. If winging it is more your speed, they'll still be there on the first day of classes.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Whether you met your new love interest online, through mutual friends, or another way entirely, you'll definitely want to know what you're getting into. I mean, really, what's the point in entering a relationship with someone if you don't know whether or not you're compatible on a very basic level?

Consider these 21 questions to ask in the talking stage when getting to know that new guy or girl you just started talking to:

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
