At Troy University, I feel nothing less of a big kid -- just enjoying my 14th year of elementary school. I may be approaching my 19th birthday, but no one can tell me any differently. The distinction between me and my fellow grade schoolers is extremely close, and we share a lot in common.
1. Naps.
College students adore naps, sleeping, or even the feeling of being able to close their eyes without the real world interfering-- whether it's after a two hour long lab, between a quick snack at TC/Saga and yet another class, or any other time in between.
2. Snacks -- and lots of 'em!
Most of us have mini fridges, microwaves, and even toaster ovens in our dorms/apartments. At almost all times they're filled with our favorite goodies, even if we don't wait until a designated time to enjoy them.
3. Daily exercise (even if it's forced on me).
With tons of running trails and equipment for working out located on campus, students make use of their daily exercise routines. From enjoying a walk across Bibb Graves to being out of breath from simply going up the stairs next to Barnes & Noble, we can all relate and agree in some fashion that exercise is incorporated in some part of our day(s).
4. Coloring, drawing, and even decorating.
DIY projects are a college student's favorite and usually consist of all of the hints from grade school about coloring in-between the lines, using the bottom of a cup for the perfect circle, or even remembering which shades combine to make the perfect color combinations.
5. Trips to the library.
If you're like most of us, you have a laptop but no printer. Often times we find ourselves taking trips to Wallace to print -- the only difference is that we have to pay in college.
6. Follow the Leader (especially in the food court at TC).
Unintended memories of following the leader usually occur in most dining areas, especially if you happen to choose Chick-fil-A at lunch time on a weekday.
7. Dress code -- personally implied.
For most of the conservatives, or just plain self-respectable students at Troy, dress code is formally applied -- personally. It's common knowledge to pull your pants up, maintain a limited amount of cleavage, and to wear comfortable shoes to your dreaded morning classes.
8. Tests -- and homework -- and more tests.
Tests, quizzes, homework, and in-class assignments don't stop throughout elementary/high school or most definitely college -- they only get worse! Almost every day, I find an assignment that is due or a presentation that has a deadline (usually in short notice).
9. Concerts, fine art events, also referred to as talent shows.
The days of talent shows don't stop after elementary school, they simply flourish into more unique and pleasurable performances by those who excel in their fine arts.
10. Snow days (and holidays)!
Snow days sometimes occur for college students, too! While not as often, they're greatly appreciated when class is cancelled because it just so happens to be a little too cold for your most warmhearted professors.
With these relations in common, be sure to remind your fellow friends and family members to thoroughly enjoy all that they have during these precious moments in life.
