If you turn on the radio while you're driving, chances are you will hear the same song three times in an hour. The radio stations probably play about 10 different songs it seems like. Even if they're not the same song, they have the same general sound to it. That is why discovering new, fresh sounding music is so amazing.
MacKenzie Bourg, a contestant on season 15 of "American Idol" has proven that you do not need to be a flashy pop star to sell music. As a singer/songwriter, very similar to Ed Sheeran (not a bad comparison, Bourg finished fourth in the farewell season). He caught everyone's attention with his chill vibe and soothing voice.
He seems to be one of the most skilled artists I have seen in a while. His ability to turn popular, upbeat songs into a stripped down, mellow ballad is incredible. The original winner of "American Idol" Kelly Clarkson praised him for his ability to know exactly who he is as an artist. In a world where most artists are so predictable and manufactured, it is nice to see someone who can just get up on a stage and sing.
MacKenzie is definitely an artist to watch. Not only does he have the ability to completely change around songs, but he is also an extremely talented songwriter. After he performed his original song, "Roses", on Idol fans were begging for a full version. "Roses" was released April 7 and has reached the top 5 on the iTunes singles charts.
With his angelic voice, a wonderful personality, unique style, and a smile like no other, MacKenzie has everything he needs in order to succeed in the music industry. He has drive and a passion for music that will get him so far. You can feel everything he sings because of the emotion behind his voice, which is the sign of a true artist. Every time he sings, you know it is going to be something unique and beautiful.
Although he didn't win "American Idol," MacKenzie has won over a lot of America. Look out for his work in the future as he will definitely have some great stuff coming out. A lot of people say that you're more succesful when you don't win shows like "American Idol"and I hope that is true for MacKenzie. The world does not have enough mellow singer/songwriters that can just play acoustically and make a crowd go silent. We need that in our lives. As we find our lives more chaotic everyday, its always good to know that there is music like this to make us feel better.
