Artist Attractions: Underrated Rappers

Don't get me wrong, I love Childish Gambino and Kendrick Lamar just as much as the next person, but sometimes I need a break from the mainstream. If you’re tired of hearing the same old songs on the radio, look no further! Here are a few of my favorite underrated rappers and my top four songs (in no particular order) from each!

Logic

He found his passion for rap after watching "Kill Bill" need I say more? Probably not, but I'll keep going. Logic's birth name is Sir Robert Bryson Hall II. You'd probably think with a name like that his life's been easy. Well, not so much. His parents were addicted to drugs and his brothers sold crack cocaine. His living situation was anything but stable. Despite these hardships (of which I only named a few), he made a life for himself and believes "if you ain't doing what you love it's only you to blame".

1. "City of Stars"

2. "Lord Willin’"

3. "Never Been"

4. "Driving Ms Daisy" ft. Childish Gambino

Kyle

He’s a nerdy rapper but in a good way. His songs are for the most part light-hearted and feel good. They typically consist of him joking around and laughing. It's no surprise one of his songs is in part about Super Smash Bros. Dorky, but who doesn't love a throwback?

1. "Don’t Wanna Fall In Love"

2. "Remember Me?" ft. Chance The Rapper

3. "Just a Picture" ft. Kehlani

4. "Fruit Snacks and Cups of Patron"

G- Eazy

Alright, I must admit, as of late he's blown up. I've been following him for a while now and in my opinion, he's still underrated. Let's face it, he's “the coldest white rapper in the game since the one with the bleached hair.” I got the chance to see him live before his new album dropped and I was completely content with his music. Then he released "When It's Dark Out," and in my opinion, it's his best album yet! Thus, all but one of the songs suggested below are from his latest album. His previous studio albums ("These Things Happen" and "Must Be Nice") have a slightly different sound to them but I think they're most definitely worth exploring as well!

1. "What If"

2. "Some Kind of Drug"

3. "Everything Will Be OK"

4. "Let’s Get Lost" ft. Devon Baldwin

Honorable Mentions

They may not be rappers but I think they deserve some recognition!

Kehlani

Kehlani's vocals are so relaxing and serene! She's been featured in both G-Eazy and Kyle's songs. So far she's released two mixtapes, "Cloud 19" and "You Should Be Here."

1. "You Should Be Here"

2. "Tell Your Mama"

3. "The Way"

Jhene Aiko

Technically none of the underrated rappers I've mentioned have featured her in their songs, but she's probably worked with at least one of your favorite rappers. Drake, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, and Childish Gambino have all featured in her songs!

1. "Limbo Limbo Limbo"

2. "Bed Peace"

3. "Pretty Bird"

There you have it, my top three underappreciated rap artists. So kick back, relax, or maybe go for a late-night drive and enjoy!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
