Article Ideas As Told By My Friends

I called in some reinforcements for an article idea this week.

Article Ideas As Told By My Friends
Mackenzie Webb

Writing an article once a week can mean that sometimes your ideas on what to write can sometimes be slim to none. When this happens I look to my friends and those around me to help find inspiration to write an interesting piece. Instead of picking just one topic this week, I decided to pick all of the topics that my friends/family said and share them with you. Some are funny, some are serious but an idea is never a bad idea!

"Oooooo do something about it being 2017 and having fresh starts!" - Hannah W.

While this was a great idea, I had just written an article on 2017 resolutions and didn't want to bore my readers with similar material 2 weeks in a row. But yes, 2017 offers new and fresh starts for everyone, everywhere!

"The 'snow' and how there wasn't actually any of it." - Jackson W.

This is one of the more true statements I've heard this winter, or any other winter for that matter. One snowflake falls out of the sky and the next thing you know, there is no longer milk, eggs or bread at the grocery, and there is an endless amount of social media freak-outs. If anyone would actually look outside they would see that nothing is even sticking.

"How cool your friend Anna is." Anna S.

Yes, Anna, you rock, and you're super cool. Thanks for the great article idea, love it.

"Wasting money." - Chuck D.

Let's be real, I am a college student and I'm so good at wasting money that it could probably be my major.

"Confidence. Or how to get rid of zits." - Monica L.

Monica, I love the diversity in your thoughts. Technically, these two topics can relate to each other, because maybe once you get rid of any zits you may have, your confidence level will be much higher because your skin is flawless. Good thinking, girlie.

"Lessons you learned from yesterday?" - Mom

Well, I got in a car wreck yesterday on my way back to school, which means another driving lesson learned. This time I learned look 3 times instead of 2 before turning, and don't start to go as you're looking the 2nd time. (yes, I am okay, but my car - not okay)

"Southern drivers on northern roads." - Dad

What a good time to talk about how very few people in the south know how to drive on roads with even an 1/8 inch of snow or sleet on them. Thankfully, this leaves room for many snow days and school cancellations.

Although these are not my original ideas, they are just as good if not better. I hope these are as helpful or funny to you as they are to me. Shoutout to my friends and family for their creative minds and thinking.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
