Throughout history, art has challenged our minds, spoken to our souls and broadened our views of the world. In this day and age, it appears as though people have forgotten how influential art can be. So much so, it is uncommon for those in our demographic to appreciate its beauty. This is a tragic turn of events. Art holds a special place in the hearts of millions of people and it should in yours as well.
The phrase a picture is worth a thousand words may be cliché but it holds an abundant amount of truth. Whether it is a photograph, painting, mosaic, ceramic or another form of art it can mean so many different things to so many different people. Art embraces emotions. They can be beautiful, happy, love filled feelings or more sullen and stoic ones. In society today, we are too caught up in what others may think of us to show our true emotions. This is terribly unfortunate. Art allows us an escape. Time to feel vulnerable, exhilarated or even confused.
Art museums are fantastic places filled with splendor. Personally, going to an art museum for a day fills me with such joy. Being able to meander around the building all day is true bliss. Around every corner there is something new and special to behold. Not to mention thinking about what stories the pieces are telling and contemplating the artist’s emotions while creating the pieces is invigorating.
Art is something I hold near and dear to my heart. It can cheer me up or console me when I am saddened. Whatever art is to you, I implore you to make a bond with this amazing form of expression. It will change your life as it has changed mine. In the words of Oscar Wilde “art is the most intense mode of individualism that the world has known.” So embrace your individuality and take some time exploring and discovering new things about yourself and the art that has influenced generations.
