Be honest with yourself for a second. How do you unwind and collect yourself after a week of classes, papers and exams? I can go out on a limb here and assume most of you taking time to read this are thinking back to your idea of "relaxation", and picturing yourself in the dark, underneath your comforter, in the fetal position with a half-eaten pint of ice cream melting on your bedside table and the fifteenth episode of season six of whatever Netflix show you are currently consumed by flashing before your eyes on your laptop screen. Now, if I am correct, in this moment you are now most likely re-evaluating your entire existence and wondering why you lack more productive hobbies. As an avid Netflix junkie myself, I am in no way bashing a much-needed, every so often, good old fashioned binge. While these days are often helpful, I can promise you that a much better way to cope with stress is to shut that laptop screen, throw on some good walking shoes and get outside.
Now, if you are as lucky as I am to go to a beautiful school in the midst of hundreds of pine trees and gorgeous trails within walking distance of my dorm, something like this is very easy for you. Whether it is taking 30 minutes out of your day to just go stroll through some trails with a friend or two, or changing your workout location from the gross and smelly gym to being surrounded by pine trees and sunshine, I promise you, just stepping outside to take it all in can boost your mood and make you forget all about the stress that that 10-page paper you have due in three days has been giving you.
Here are some of my favorite getaways in Jersey, check them out if you ever get the chance!
1. The Delaware water gap.
2. Hedden Park.
3. The Stairway to Heaven trail.
4. Split Rock reservoir.

Rockaway township, New Jersey - This gorgeous spot consists of many large lakes interconnected with large islands. Fishing and hiking is popular at this spot, but my friends and I like to just come and sit by the water to relax!
