This week I decided to write on more of a fun topic than a serious one. With the new Independence Day- Resurgence movie recently hitting the theaters and all the other sci-fi movies regarding alien invasions, I've decided that now is as good of a time as any to share my opinion and answer the overwhelming question: is there intelligent life beyond Earth?
Now when you think of aliens, you may picture a little green guy in your head
You may even picture some creepy tentacly thing that would eat your face off in a matter of seconds
But regardless of how they look, I think it would be naive to believe that we are the only intelligent life in the universe.
We live in one galaxy- the milky way, and the Milky Way is just a tiny little part of the entire universe, meaning that the Earth in relation to it all is even more miniscule. To believe that Earth is the only place in the entire universe that houses intelligent life is foolish.
Now I don't like the idea of intelligent life being anywhere near us or having contact with us, and I hope that in our life time that we never have to deal with contact from other intelligent life forms, but I do believe it is a possibility. I do believe that there has to be something else in the universe that has life just like us on Earth. That there are beings that have a sort of social system and community similar to the one that we have on Earth. That they have their own way of life, but it is organized and every being has it's place and it's role to play.
Whatever form this intelligent life comes in, I believe it is out there. They may know about us, or they may just be playing guessing games like I am now. We may or may never cross paths with other intelligent life, and I'm sure that there are different types of intelligent life in all different nooks of the universe. Whether they're hostile beings searching for a new host planet, or peace keepers that stay out of other species' business, I believe that we are not alone.
I just hope that if I ever encounter an "alien" that it look more like the little green guys from "Toy Story."
